R.I.P Battlefield 2042

well i dont remember hearing one positive thing about 2042 since its release, so it is really now wonder.

i never liked battlefield and cod series cause of their yearly release schedule and i liked both battlefield 1942 and cod 1. it is just waste of money for game that basically has limited multiplayer life cause of obsolescence.

BF3, 4 and 1 are still played by people. COD games are completely dead except last few titles (or on consoles when playing very old ones).

To be honest, I still play CoD. Although it is a bit old CoD.
Running around mindlessly and shooting guns is like washing my brain clean.

I miss the days when CoD had a decent WW2…

Yeah, I think that’s the quintessential AAA title making studio there.
The skins and animations looked great.
But…, 2042 still had the impression that the graphics were also powered down compared to the traditional Battlefield.

Yeahhhh, I really liked 2142!
When I saw that Battlefield 4’s final DLC featured a Titan under construction, I knew that a sequel to 2142 must come next. A long time passed from there, and when 2042 was announced, I thought, ā€œThis title definitely has 2142 in mind, perhaps something about 2142!ā€
But when I opened the lid, it turned out to be a game in development, less than an alpha test.

Yes that is correct.
As far as I know, WT was not the splendid game it is now for the first few years either. It took a long time to refine it.
Enlisted, if it lasts long enough, can become a universal game, if not the best ever…
It’s like, ā€œIf I want a little WW2 feel, I’ll play Enlisted!ā€.
Like the McDonald’s you go to when you get a little hungry,…it will become a familiar part of our gamers’ lives.

When I first played Enlisted, I remembered how I felt 20 years ago when I was playing Battlefield 1942.
It was rough and unpolished, but at its core it was very interesting and captivated me.

The anachronistic weird WW2 worldview was also fun now, Japanese soldiers with Stg44s and all. (This was later fixed with a patch, but you can see traces of it in the demo version).
I feel that Enlisted has taken over even that kind of ridiculousness.
I am convinced that if Enlisted continues for a long time to come, I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes a big title like Battlefield in the future.

BF 1942: played it for years, loved every second of the WW2 setting, even though being young I didn’t notice the numerous mistakes.
Still, driving a T-34 in Berlin or shooting Kayusha in Kharkov was unparalleled.

BF 2, 2142, bc, 3, bc2, 4, H: largely skipped because I’m not interested in modern/future setting.

BF1: peak gaming experience. Built a new PC for it, purchased my first ever DLC/Premium pass, played that game almost daily and discovered my huge interest in WW1.
Comparing my knowledge of WW1 before and after BF1 is like primary school and college.
Thousands of hours played.

BFV: laughable ridiculous agenda filled slap in the face of WW2. Whamen, ā€œeliteā€ skins, postwar stuff everywhere.
Had an awesome couple of months when Pacific DLC was launched though.
Then went back to the shitter with Japanese girls crouch sliding across Norwegian mountains with golden post weapons equipped with red dot sights.
Still thousands of hours played on Iwo Jima and Wake Island.

BF 2042: modern/futuristic setting, heroes, agenda, cringe.
Only played a couple rounds of its beta and never touched it again.
Let it die.

Look how the mighty have fallen.

Ironically, Enlisted for me was a ā€œhealthy versionā€ of BFV when I first played it in 2020.
Played the hell out of the OBT in 2021.
The Moscow campaign before Fedorov and MKB was peak WW2 gaming experience.
Then came the prototypes, the nickname decorators, the rank icons, the decals, the samurai masks on tanks, the fakes like Hori and Panthers in Stalingrad and all the other bullshit.
Look how they massacred my boy.

It was said that Enlisted would destroy the Bullshit, not join it! Bring balance to the WW2 genre, not leave it in darkness!

Btw, how many of you remember that Battlefield Vietnam had an OFFICIAL mod that changed the game to WWII (Pacific only)?

This was the first time, if not the first time later, that we saw an official game delivered in the form of a ā€œmodā€, not a DLC, not an expansion pack, not an update, but a ā€œmodā€.

you are highlighting the problem here. you have playerbase spread around BF 3, 4, 5, 1 and 2042. not to mention BF 3 and 4 have low player count.

I am sort of struck with nostalgia when I see the Gamespy logo in the lower left corner.
That creepy spy guy is no more.

I stopped playing Battlefield a long time ago, it just seemed to lose what made it so great. I think this game is great to be perfectly honest. It’s beautiful and the physics are good as well. The old gripe with I have is with the AI but that should be an easy fix. I literally just started playing a week a ago and I plan on continuing to play and keep my fingers crossed for a good update to the AI and some CO-OP PVE campaigns to top it off.

WOW you just brought back some fantastic memories. MPLAYER and GameSpy – the Archetype of what modern online gaming has become. To be honest there is something missing in the online PC gaming community that left with game spy; those were the days!!! :100:

Yeah! everyone thinks that for the first six months or so…
Well, never mind about that!

There was a time when Gamespy was required to play anything!

Well, I don’t think that’s very comparable. BF2042 isn’t live service game.
And Enlisted is not a game series/franchise that is releasing a standalone game every 3 years.

BF2024 was an obvious fail and it is no wonder they’ll rather spend their money and resources on developing completely new BF game.

Btw. For me personally, BF series ended with BF4. I really haven’t enjoyed playing BF1 and BFV. And I didn’t even cared about BF2042 lol.

It is even though EA and Dice stopped list it as such since 2024.

It is just not a good live-service game as around 80% of them nowadays.

It’s pretty bizarre to pass it off as a live service game when every three years it gets replaced by something else, lol.

So from my perspective, it’s definitely not a live service game. More like they’re just labeling it that way to justify more microtransactions.

Yes, Enlisted and Battlefield have very different service formats.
The Battlefield approach of selling a new game every few years would have been feasible in the 00’s, but not on the scale of modern development. 2042 was born from such distortions.
A live service like Enlisted would result in a better quality gaming experience over a longer period of time. The future.
As a side note, Call of Duty is a rival title to Battlefield, and like Battlefield, it releases a new title almost every year, but generally seems to do well, doesn’t it? I think CoD is ultimately a kind of live service, too.
Even when CoD puts out a new game, it uses a lot of game assets from the previous game and is essentially just an upgraded version. We pay full price for it.
Many people criticize CoD’s approach, but I think it’s smart.
Many applications like photoshop, 3dsMAX, etc. are now on an annual subscription basis and if you want to use the upgraded version you have to pay for it every year CoD does this.

Blah blah blah.
Off topic.

Enlisted does not take money for every upgrade, but instead they are trying to generate recurring revenue by selling premium accounts and premium squads.
So,We need to buy them something at least once a year to keep their service going!!
(What in the world was I talking about…?)

Well, the battle royale one (I forget how it’s called lmao) is definitely live service.

They do not criticize it for not being smart. They are criticizing it for being anti user friendly.

Apparently, the capitalist economy is not user-friendly.

This has nothing to do with capitalism. It’s about effortless laziness and complete disrespect to their customers.

That’s why I’m not interested in these games anymore. I’d rather support games like BG3.
There are still some studios that have judgement.

Of course, not counting this eula.
