Quick Idea on Halftracks

There has been some discussion on this forum for a while about halftracks and their potential implementation into the game. The addition of paratroopers into the game has allowed paratrooper squads to have the option to deploy from the air or on the ground, I think this option could easily be applied to infantry squads for halftrack deployment as well.


As we see here, paratroopers can deploy from the ground.

I think this option should have a point cost associated with it, similar to the costs associated with spawning titans in the titan rise event. This would allow players to use halftracks but be unable to spam so many of them that the map becomes covered in wrecked halftracks and the game starts to lag, which was a concern for many people. Hopefully this could also mean that halftracks aren’t neutered for balance reasons and still function as support vehicles with working weaponry.

This idea is a variation of the rider rework suggestion proposed by Erika. The main difference being that in Erika’s suggestion halftracks would only be available to rider squads while in my suggestion I propose that all squads have access to deploying in a halftrack but at the cost of battle points.

I recommend reading Erika’s post if you are interested in halftracks as she goes more into detail about what halftracks we may see in the future and gameplay justifications for them.

TLDR: All infantry squads get the ability to deploy in a halftrack but it costs battlepoints.

Spawning into a live halftrack should cost battlepoints too.
As for armament they should get HMGS but that’s about it, so no cannons.

If tank destroyers were seperate class, I would let proper tanks cost battlepoints too. Not tank destroyers tho, they should be consistently free to spawn (limited to number on battlefield) so vehicle lovers could still take something.
I know it’s kinda offtopic, sorry for that.

Spawning in vehicles should cost battlepoints in general, so you don’t get suiciders.

Agreed, a real halftrack or APC would have one or the other due to the space required to have a cannon.

Idk, cuz there’s one big problem. Every premium vehicle would greatly drop on value.
It could help in the matter of gameplay (but even this isn’t for sure). I really like ground vehicles, so my opinion isn’t unbiased tho.

Ground vehicles would cost less to spawn in aircraft.

Problem for me isn’t cost, I can easily be top on leaderboard in few minutes.
The problem is that I would have to play something I don’t want to for certain amount time until I get points. Which could be annoying or even frustrating.

Current enlisted has a lot of freedom in this. I think there should be always option to take certain ground vehicles/planes without spawn points. They could be obsolete. Like only light tanks/tank destroyers and biplanes. So the vehicle enjoyers can take immediately take something at least. And only the better ones should costs battlepoints for spawning. This could be used for infantry too., you could start with only certain squads (for example riflemen/engineers/AT squad) and things like flamethrowers/assaulters/paratroopers could be locked behind battlepoints

But I know this opinion could trigger a lot of people. Since there is a lot of infantry bias.

I like your idea to make the vehicles cost points but I would like it to be squad specific aka only mechanized infantry can use it, Just my opinion though.

Maybe a good idea to give initial spawn point just to spawn one and only one vehicle, so the player can spawn another if it did well in that one, but not if it suicide.

i was also think of halftracks like Panzergrenadiers in sdkfz 251 and usa in m2 halftrack

Max player number should be at least 12 . 2 additional slots for half tracks.
Why along with tanks ?
Without tank support they are just xp pinatas.
Also maps are not suitable.
Imagine trying to use them in gavutu or berlin

I love the idea of half tracks. Perhaps there’s is another way to include these as assets for the team, while not risking spamming them.

Perhaps its should be a team asset (like jeeps, etc) that spawn in team starter zone, There would only be 2 at any one time, and they would be Spawn points with ammo and medical supplies (only works while stationary). And once destroyed it would respawn back at assembly area after small delay. Maybe only a particular squad type could operate them?

just spitballing for discussions sake. Obviously these ideas are straight out of other games.

2 question that I got while thinking about this:

  1. If the halftrack has an HMG would the crew or riders use it? If the crew used it, they might treat the halftrack like an IFV instead of an APC.
  2. Where would the infantry spawn in on the halftrack? Would they spawn in or behind the halftrack? If they spawned in the halftrack would there be a door at the back, or would they climb over the sides? If they spawned inside the halftrack, the AI would probably get stuck, but if they spawned on the outside, they could get cut down as soon as they spawn in.

Good question. I think it would make more sense for the crew to use it personally. I don’t think it’ll turn into an IFV if it has spawn capabilities, but we’ll see.

Probably just outside like a tank. Hopefully from behind so you get a fighting chance.

Depends how developers decide to balance it, imo halftracks end up like tank for avoid a full team spam 10 veichle and so used by tank squad, but if it was for me they can even take their own slots in the deploy menu and be used by the rider class

Is not an ifv because

If the halftrack become a mobile rallypoint and ammunition point for work need be outiside the enemy fire and at least at 50m from the spawn, the best way to use it in this case is park him at 70m from the cap behind something

I proposed similar system a few times. The most common responces were:

  • I bought it so I want to use it (understandable)
  • I want to spam things

That’s why imo such system should be implemented together with more “” realistic"" gamemode. So you have stupid fun gamemode to spam things and a bit more hardcore mode with limits.

Yeah, but we should wait until merge. I think splitting playerbase into more gamemodes isn’t currently best solution too.
