Question for critically acclaimed pilots in Enlisted

Has anyone been able to successfully perform a Cobra Maneuver in Enlisted? If so, could you tell me how you completed it and what plane you used? It would be very appreciated.

hmmm, I don’t think it’s possible because when you go up the plane it does so gradually, as for gameplay I don’t think so, as for canonically I doubt that the planes of the time would support it.

Anyway, you’ve left me with a curiosity, I’ll try all the fighters from all the factions and I’ll let you know.

Thank you

Clearly you need the IL-2

(I can’t find the clip itself, this is just a timestamp from a random video  )
Also, you cant really do a cobra without supermaneuverability which isn’t a thing for (i think) any ww2 aircraft

haha…with the lead indicator showing up 1500 meters away, I highly doubt you would ever get a chance to try a proper cobra. you would be just showing them your cockpit for a pilot snipe

And even if you did/could, you would dump off all your speed/energy (enlisted generally have bad climb and acceleratiion). Even if the other plane did overshoot, unless they fucked it up they would have complete energy control over you.

Ive done a stall overshoot. but not a cobra. I dont think WW 2 planes have the performance.

I MUCH prefer a rolling scissors to force an overshoot.

This clip was unironically why I have been trying to do a Cobra in Enlisted…

It would look so cool if it worked, though.

Cool factor wins :+1:

But a smooth scissors from your six to your guns does look pretty cool too

strict definition: the angle needs to be >=90º for a cobra. in the video the plane would go upward, not move forward only. can’t be done with ww2 props.
closer you can get in enlisted: disable the instructor and get as much angle as possible before a stall. it will make you break harder than what the instructor would allow. you won’t get the effect of switching axis though. for maximum angle before stall, don’t use flaps. one of the aircraft that can pull a lot of AoA (angle of attack) before losing wing lift is the fw-190, with 17,5º (as you can see, it is much less than 90º). HOWEVER, some plane may have an odd behavior ingame that i’m not aware of.
in props, thrust is not that great, so it’s really bad to bleed a lot of energy, and you would rather be turning.

for overshoots in general, it’s 0 throttle, max rudder, and flip-flopping around. (and max flaps for given speed)*

this is based on what i know of wt modelling.

What exactly is the instructor, and how do I disable it?

in general you point where you want to go and the instructor controls the plane to point there safely (it controls ailerons - roll, elevator - pitch, rudder - side-to-side).

there are two ways to switch it off: in options → game → plane control mode. in the options screen joystick and direct control there is no instructor (default is pointer mode, which has instructor). however, screen joystick doesn’t actually show the screen joystick to allow you to see what is your input (it should, based on wt), so it’s basically impossible to use. so there is only direct control, meaning you will need some flightstick or gamepad to gradually control the axes. you can also enter direct control with no instructor by setting keys for that in Controls → Plane.

Even then, it’s not practical to fly without instructor. There should be feedback when you are getting close to stall, as turbulence. I just tested with maximum Sense of Flight and Camera Shake options, still no feedback like in other games (including wt).

Why did they even add it in the first place if they were going to allow players to see input?

¯_(ツ)_/¯

there are also keys to engage manual engine mode and its controls, but it has no effect in enlisted. there are keys for magnetos, that don’t have effects even in wt afaik.

Do you recommend any tutorials or manuals that will give me a basic understanding of operating a plane? Or will I have to play Warthunder or DCS?

you’d have a better plane combat experience in wt or il-2 because the lead marker in enlisted starts too far away.
assuming it’s about dogfighting (for operating a plane in general one would have to go to simulators):
