Question about squad formation?

What is the best formation to keep ai soldier alive as long as possible ?
Which one has least problem about pathfinding ?
Standart close or wide ?

put them behind a wall and forget about them.

that’s actually the only way you can keep them alive.

unfortunately, AI are not great in combat unless they have machineguns / automatic weapons and are behind foliage and/or around corners.

they are more for keeping them behind a wall, and let them kill unsuspecting targets from up close.

beside that, yeah not much is going for them.

that’s unrelated to pathfinding

pathfinding is a general issue that doesn’t get softened by squad formation.

which, the squad formation gets disregarded if you order the ai to attack a point or stand in a place ( through the X button ).

it only works if you keep them near.

which, wide formation is made so that they are spread out and will not get blown up all at once by a single nade.

but they will inevitably draw attention and picked out one by one from the distance.
not spreaded enough imo.

then you have close formation, which its " great " if you want to keep them very near as a body shield when walking on objectives and generally slighlty improve the speed as kept together crossing buildings etc ( but very risky as one ap mine could take half or more of the squad )

then you have standard. somewhat a mix of the two which no real benefit.

Yea, squad of bots with M2 Carbine in sown area of La Perel(or how this farm in Normandy called) it’s always a very good tactic.

And so if about topic. Then bots always die from players mostly. Therefore, they must be hidden from them. If this is not possible, then it is better to try to disperse them, so they will be better protected from HE, bombs, missiles and high rof guns (MG, PPSh). With the help of personal orders, they can be more correctly placed in the corners, but it is tedious and long. And which of the formations is better? No one. They’re all too situational. On the one hand, the wide, it’s a good option, but in some cases they will run out of shelter and stay outside.

So “close” is to hide them in a small house.
“Wide” to place them in the field.
