Question about reloading in FG 42

I’ve noticed that when there’s a bullet left in and you reload a new magazine, the soldier pulls the slide back as if the chamber was empty and there was no bullet left from the previous magazine. So why is it like this? It makes sense that the ammo count goes to 21 after you reload a new magazine with a bullet from a previous magazine in the chamber but wouldn’t that pulling the slide back eject the bullet in the chamber and make it 20 again? Is it a visual bug or some complicated mechanic (please explain the mechanic if it is like this)

Well, IRL FG-42 had an unusual feature. When firing in semi-auto it had a closed bolt mechanism (hence the 21 rounds in the mag after reloading an incomplete mag) but fired from open bolt in full auto (hence the soldier pulling the slide after reloading)

The FG-42 should have different outcome when reloading, depending if the weapon is set to semi-auto or full-auto. But I think that this is something too complex for the devs.

So technically with how the soldier in enlisted reloads a new magazine, it should just go back to 20 because it ejects a round already in chamber?

It’s just because there’s no animation.
They added a tactical reload and mentioned that they would add an animation later.
But no one really knows when it will be added.
It’s already been a few months.

Oh so it is indeed a visual thing. It was on my mind and I was wondering about why and how is it like this for a couple of days lol

nah, its just him pulling the bolt back I bet, like an open bolt SMG, but it being exactly correct mechanics is unlikely the case - FG is weird and complicated, you can switch from semi auto to full auto, but the bolt will obviously not move when you switch, so it will stay closed bolt until it loads the next round, which will then catch the bolt after firing keeping it indeed opened.

So the whole “one round in chamber” is kinda only gonna work when the gun is kept in semi auto - since you cant have a loaded round with the bolt open.

so long story short, dont worry about it, this mechanism has so many stages that the devs would need to put in way too much work to simulate it properly, and considering we dont even have a bipod folding animation, we cant really expect the devs to put in effort just for 0.5% of gun nerds here that even know how FGs function.

So since there can’t be a bullet in the chamber while in open bolt, the FG 42 cannot have 21 rounds when in full auto, right?

well yes - but with the exception when it is set to semi auto first - loaded with a round into the chamber (either per hand, or through a second magazine) and then when you have 21 rounds in your gun, you switch to full auto and you have 21 rounds in full auto - but this only happens because the gun is still set to “closed bolt” internally, which automatically changes to "open bolt after being fired.

you need to think about, the FG is supposed to be a MG / rifle hybrid - not an assault rifle or battle rifle in the modern sense - full auto is not for room clearing or assaulting a position, rather it is supposed to be used as a light MG with full auto, but in semi be a shoulder fired rifle. Thats why it has this weird feature.

Ain’t that complicated, yet, in my personal opinion, some other stuff are way more critical
