Before I begin, I adore Enlisted. That adoration, however, is in spite of the way it feels to play it. I have a few QoL solutions that would not affect the core game, while making it more comfortable for a large chunk of the playerbase. I wholeheartedly believe that these changes would increase controller player retention dramatically.
Aim Sensitivity Curve
The biggest problem right now for me is that aiming feels rigid. I have spent a ton of time attempting to rectify this issue, only to find that the solution does not currently exist in-game. The current sensitivity curve is linear, which means that if the right stick is moved to 38%, your character turns at 38% of their maximum speed. While this makes a lot of sense on paper, many people do not find it comfortable to aim with.
The solution I’m seeking is an option for a parabolic aim sensitivity curve. In this type, aim speed increments more slowly at first, and speeds up over the range of the stick. This makes it easier to make fine adjustments to point of aim, while preserving the full range of the stick. Call of Duty games have their default aim set up this way, and it’s one of the most crisp-feeling FPS games available on controller. If you need guidance, use their default aim settings as a comparison.
Aim Assist
At current, aim assist is a binary option for controller users. I feel that its current implementation is too sticky and I don’t care for snap-to-target.
What I’d like is for the aim slowdown to be exposed as a slider with the maximum value set to the current value. I would also like specifically the snap-to-target to be a toggle.
Default Settings
I recommend setting the default value of Aim Acceleration to zero for new players. A common complaint that I see is that the game feels clunky and unresponsive. My first recommendation is universally to get rid of aim acceleration, and it has always helped the player in question to feel more in control.
Conclusion
The above changes are very important to me as a controller user and someone who wants to see this game succeed. As much as I enjoy the game as a package, I find myself avoiding it more and more over time because it doesn’t feel good in my hands. I believe that my suggestions would go a long way toward rectifying that problem.
I hope this suggestion finds its way to people who can make this happen. Thank you.
