Premium soldiers, not premium squads

Premium squads have a scaling issue.

For the low-low (not really) price of 10-40 USD, you have a squad that comes with max stats/perks, maxed weaponry and equipment, and a hefty premium boost for using the squad.

Except, you have limited squad sizes and fixed weaponry.

As a result, if you play a campaign long enough, you will eventually get a squad that has a larger squad size and better weaponry than premium counterparts, with a few exceptions. Thus, your rather expensive squad turns into more or less something to farm exp for orders with.

My proposal is simple. Instead of selling premium squads, you sell packs of premium soldiers with fixed weaponry, and the ability to be integrated into any existing squad with the correct slot to accomodate such soldiers.

The premium bonus will apply only to exp accrued by the premium soldier, and towards squad exp.

What this means is that you are buying soldiers with preset and fixed weapons with an exp bonus.

This means that:

  • Premium squads will no longer be undermanned, but instead a part of an existing squad, which also means they no longer take up a specific squad slot in your roster.
  • Premium soldiers will aid in the progression of regular campaign squad levels (II, III and IV squads, especially).
  • Premium soldiers will have value, even if new campaign levels are added, and new squads are introduced.
  • You can mix and match premium weapons with other premium weapons, or other regular campaign weaponry, instead of being a homogenous squad.

This should address the concern that premium squads are useful only until a certain point, and encourages their use.

I propose selling them in packs of 4 for assaulters, 3 for gunners, 7-9 for riflemen, etc.

Hopefully, this retroactively applies to everyone who previously purchased premium squads, but it could apply to newer ones.

Yes, yes and yes! I’d love that!

There would only need a solution for the unique uniforms that came with prem squads. What to do with em? we already paid more than enough for the squads with the need to pay again to outfit other soldiers to match.

(suggestion: make bough premium uniforms unlocked for all your soldiers)

Another point would be vehicle premiums. They more or less are fine as they are already (don’t need a premium tanker crewman in another tank…) since they come with their own vehicles…

It sounds like a build-your-own squad of op weapons and super soldiers plus bonus experience. I like the idea of giving premium squads engineers but not making them into custom p2w squads

In order to keep it balanced I’d say that the premium soldier should be capped at level 4 with zero retrain points, they gain more experience but a full level 5 soldier will still be better and more customizable

My original response comes off a bit harsh as I reread it. I like the idea in principal, but it needs healthy limits to prevent abuse. Maybe as you say or limiting the number of premium soldiers allowed per squad.

Maybe give gold order soldiers some premium benefits too, so f2p players can get something comparable.

Do not worry, if you’ve read, OP proposes those premiums chaps to come in “batch” to be integrated in regular squads.

Which means that in your gunner squad, there could not be more than 3 lmg guys, premium or regular or mix of both. In the end, it’s even LESS abusive than it is right now, with premium squads having FIVE lmg guys! Also, most premium weapons are in fact inferior to regular unlocks in general, bar some exceptions, so still fine here.

Which brings the point:

nope. terrible suggestion and counterproductive to the original post. We want premium guys we paid a fortune to get to be JUST AS GOOD as regular men, not worse. the xp bonus, is the money put in. You’re against premiums? It’s fine, don’t buy any, but don’t ruin the fun of those who do support the game by buying some.

I must also add, this means that the obligatory engineers in premium squads are no longer present.

Premium engineers have the ability to construct all fortifications available to engineer II squads. With the application of this change, there would be no need for premium packs to be supplied with its own engineers, preventing a potential balance issue where premium engineers would be equipped with different-class weapons, as well as the ability to make AT/AA guns- Because I’m certain no one likes having an assaulter/gunner have the ability to resupply its own ammunition.

The exception being dedicated engineer-only exclusive squads homogenously consisting of engineers. An example being the Mosin M/28 and Arisaka Squads in Moscow.

What would happen to their unique uniforms? Maybe they could keep the uniforms also attached if they get placed into other squads?

I honestly haven’t thought about what would happen to their cosmetics, truthfully speaking.

Perhaps if premium soldiers can change appearances for free, so they can swap between their unique uniforms and the original squad’s default outfits at will?

Honestly a nice idea.

I would purchase some. Even if cosmetics were the same of normal soldiers.

I sincerely hope this gets implemented with the coming progression update.
