Possible Fix to Matchmaking

If they are so dedicated to having just two ques per nation, then we do not really need 5 different BRs to represent just two levels of play.

Right now, we have just these levels:

BR 1-2, battles with early game gear that loosely represents early war tech

BR 4-5, battles with late game gear that (very) loosely represents late war tech.

There is little point differentiating 5 levels of power if 4 of them fall into one of two groups. Having such precise measurements of strength does nothing but cause disagreement in placement.

Instead, I propose we rebrand the (arguably) confusing BRs as two levels of play, “Standard” and “Elite.”

Naturally BR 1-2 will become “Standard” and BR 4-5 will become “Elite.” BR 3 should be broken down and distributed between the two as appropriate.

That is a good start, and something that should be easily implemented quickly to help (try) save the current state of the game. However, I feel like this could be improved further…

Rather than have equipment statically placed within their current BR ranges, weapons should instead be individually “power weighted” and a player’s placement into Standard or Elite gameplay should be based upon the average “power weight” of their total load out.

Furthermore, power weight can also be used to determine what campaign/maps you are likely to drop into. This allows players to customize loads outs that fall within the range of the campaign of their preference.

Naturally, some weapons that are exceptionally powerful, such as end game squads and tanks should be weighted so heavily that they will always end up in Elite matches, even if the player makes the rest of the load out minimally weighted. Such measures will prevent players from manipulating the system for an unfair advantage. ((Edit: I’d further suggest that some equipment impose a minimum power weight average the player can attain. Which will help players tailor into appropriate maps/campaigns))

I am sure implementing such a change will take time to figure out and even more time to code, but it should be a preferable system to what we have now. Until then, I suggest my first step be implemented and other temporary measures be taken to address the games other issues with it. Such as the problem of map/campaign access and tech tree progression.

They need to add the 3rd queue. Both of the existing queues produce matches which are way too lopsided for or against. I have only had one good match since the update.

1-2-3
2-3-4
3-4-5

It makes the most sense. The problem is that overwhelming majority of players will classify as Tier 3.

(This is US centric)
With the Garand automatically making you Tier 3, anyone who played Normandy for even a couple of weeks before the Merge has it. That doesn’t mean they have any clue how to use it. With Tier 3 always being either the top of the bottom or the bottom of the top, the matches routinely fall apart.

I went from multiple “white knuckle overtime fights for the last CP With 0 reinforcements remaining” before Merge to either rolling over the Axis with 700 troops left or being with teammates who can’t even take the first CP after Merge. It’s extremely frustrating.

They can not add a third que. There are not enough players. This has been repeated multiple times on multiple occasions. Breaking gameplay down to two ques per nation was one of the main goals of the merge. Maybe we can have three or more ques when/if they gain a proper player base.

To elaborate visually; right now, here are the possible match combinations:

Allies vs Japan

Allies vs Germany

Soviets Vs Germany

breaking that down, you have 4 specific ques of players with only Germany and the Allies having flexibility of who they match up against.

That number is doubled when you then split that into the two ques we have now. BR 1-2 and BR 3-5. Creating 8 specific ques of players, 4 of which have to be matched specifically and the other 4 (allies and germany in their two BR ranges) which have the option of 2 specific match ups.

If you were to add yet ANOTHER que on top of that, the total ques would be 12 with only 6 having minor flexibility.

Splinting the player base 8 ways is bad enough, splitting it 12 ways is just too much. At least with the current population.
