LMGs just aren’t as good or suited to gunfights as their SMG and AR counterparts, with few exceptions. Their ammunition count at least needs to be improved to increase their staying power and reduce their dependence on pouches and boxes.
The argument can be made that they deal more damage per shot, but their dispersion increases to the point that a flamethrower seems like a pinpoint weapon if they so much as budge from their position- With the penalty being an average of a x13 multiplier across nations when you dare to walk while aiming down the sights, up to x45 when hipfiring while moving.
Automatic and assault rifles do not have such a movement penalty when walking while aiming down the sights, and only experience x15 dispersion when moving while hipfiring.
They have movement and aim penalties that make them unresponsive, handle poorly due to their high recoil, and they are ironically outgunned in that you can only fit 3 gunners in a gunner squad, with assault squads having the most soldiers with automatic primaries by default.
Most LMGs just aren’t good enough. The good ones break the mould.
Exactly, the MG42 early squad only gets 1 reserve belt with that excessive ROF forces you to use an ammo pouch, even then you still run out of ammo fairly fast
I don’t really see an issue with current ammo loads, and I run one of the LMG’s with the least ammo and rarely have any problems. Bring an ammo bag, a pistol, and an Engie and you’ll be fine
MG’s in general need a total rework; a “MG Squad” should not be four guys with MG’s it should be maybe two MG’s and then like 3-4 riflemen who carry ammo, assist with reloading, etc. hipfiring a MG, particularly anything belt-fed should be difficult and shouldering it should be discouraged with near uncontrollable recoil…
I think that a total rework would be the best thing that could happen to this unite class , and since we are actually talking about ammo count here, Imagine MGs would be super super strong, but actually had NO extra ammo besides the belt that is loaded. The only way to get more ammo would be through your AI in your squad, that would be super cool.
Yes, and you are given a tool to fix that problem in form of ammo pouches.
If you remove the need for ammo pouches you can carry around a second weapon or 4 medic bags with no drawbacks.
If you get more ammo for mgs, what next? “My soldiers can carry only 1 grenade each, we should increase the amount of grenades every soldier can bring into the battle!”
Then why limit anything at all? Give every soldier infinite ammo, grenades, medic bags I say!
1- It doesnt matter how much ammo you have with janky bipod. Mgs are essentially long range weapons.
2- maps’ design and maps’ size are horrible for any mg gameplay.
People prefer smg and ar not just because they look cool.
Maps are cqc oriented, capture areas are small. Wtf do you expect as a result anyway ?
3- there is no supression effect.
Actually;if you remove every mg and mg squad from the game, nothing will change in terms of general gamplay.
Since dispersion and recoil buffs are unlikely to be implemented, the next best thing is to at least buff their ammo.
As for why the devs insist on high dispersion high recoil guns- Ask them. Everyone’s been asking for dispersion fixes since they were introduced (holy shit) nearly 3 years ago.
Nearly every mediocre fps i know uses gunsway, recoil and reload animation time to balance guns.
Dispersion is very akward way to go.
I often saw dispersion in tps games not fps
Yeah.
I myself complained about bunnyhopping with MGs and devs solved this issue. Be it in a totally retarded way by increasing dispersion, but it works!
