Playing as tank support infantry [I need tips]

Any tips for how to play as inf supporting a tank?

I like to RP “Panzer Grenadier” but so far it’s nearly impossible in this game. You are basically an additional exp for a guy with an explosive pack.
There is next to no way of preventing enemy killing a tank, except of preemptive strike. But I can’t look behind every bush and check every building all the time to spot the guy.

At the beggining of the Stalingrad campaign it was actually possible to play this way as 99% of players had TNT and had to get really close to a tank. Now it’s also explosive pack spam.

The fact that AT infantry goes kamikadze 99% of the time, doesn’t help either. But it’s more of an annoyance than a real problem.

[All of that assuming the tank doesn’t camp in the grey zone.]

Also there is exactly 0 reward for this type of gameplay exp weise. But that’s just a tip of the iceberg.
The lack of encouragement for team play is just sad.

So I play pretty much only armor, that’s just my bread and butter and you’re right it is very difficult to play the Infantry support role because it’s definitely a 2 way relationship you need the Infantry to support you aswell.
This obviously heavily depends on the vehicle, map and team you have but I think the best way to play Support is to play a second line, fire support role. Offensively move toward the objective but don’t rush out alone that’s fastest way to get an explosive pack under you. You want to do everything you can to keep enemy Infantry out of good defensive positions I.E in buildings. You also want to try to and keep your Infantry safe from enemy armor. If you keep their attention off your team that helps them help you.
The same can be said for defensive play. Stay second line where you’re close enough to keep you’re MG and main gun focused on the objective. A well placed tank covering an objective can make a huge difference in keeping the enemy off a capture point.
I apologize I know this is kind of a rant but trying my best to summarize you could right a whole article on this topic

Use G41s to be true panzer grenadier, other than that IDK, try to throw the det packs back if possible to prevent death of the tank

I think I just realized you’re talking Infantry Supporting a Tank and not a Tank Supporting Infantry… that’s my bad hahaha

It depends on who you are protecting and how they play. If they are fairly green then it is harder yes. If they are super aggressive there are limitations to how much you can keep up. But as a tanker here are a few tips…

All soldiers can carry tools and if the tank is using evasive maneuvers then just stops after getting shot, it probably needs repairing. If you have tools on some of your soldiers you can run up and repair it for them. It really works best to find a few people to team up with otherwise they’ll instinctively get out to repair. But I have had this happen a few times and it is great.

If a tank is engaged with another tank, they are very vulnerable to infantry and are focus firing on the tank. Even when attacking infantry, if you don’t see the commander popping out of the cupola regularly or the tank isn’t crab dancing and rotating its turret, then they are looking in front. Most infantry who want to kill the tank will sneak around the side and time an explosive pack. When they are doing this the infantry have strong tunnel vision and they are easy to pick off. If you can find a spot either on the side of the tank or at a 45 degree angle and cover the tank from explosive pack/at infantry that is the single most valuable thing you can do. But it helps to keep back at least 10 meters, otherwise you’ll either get run over or focus fired. A lot of people look at the tank so if you are right next to it you’ll get picked off quickly. Plus if you are too close you won’t have a wide enough viewpoint to see the guys running at it from all directions. On attacking maps it helps to have a lot of guys with sprint so you can keep up.

If the tank is playing smart, he’ll either be holding a chokepoint when defending or constantly putting pressure next to the capture point when attacking. When defending, if the tank is in a position that actually helps the objective and isn’t just kill farming, put a rally point in some cover near the tank. While one person’s assistance is good, having the team spawning near the tank is the best defense possible. Just don’t place it in a way that screws up keeping/taking the objective.

Remember to mark, especially if it isn’t where the tank is looking. If it is urgent, take the first shot or two but then mark. You can mark while shooting. No matter how good one player is if the rest of the team knows they are at a certain spot that’s always best. Single mark an individual squad, ideally a little ahead of where they are running. Triple mark a swarm. Marking enemy tanks is a must. If the tank you are working with is a low level, they know where to avoid. If it is max, then they know where to aim. Doing this also spots for bombers which might randomly fix the problem for you two.

Keep an AT gunner or engineer squad to build an anti-tank gun handy. When two tanks are fighting often they are only focused on each other. So if you sneak around and kill the enemy tank while he is focused on yours then that is a big bonus. Especially when the enemy tank is stronger.

The last thing I’d consider is knowing who to assist. There will always be kamikaze tanks, or players that just jump in and floor it directly into enemy fire then die a minute after spawning. It can be frustrating to try to assist these as the effort you expend will be questionably worthwhile vses just capping the objective. But doing these things with someone who clearly knows what they are doing can turn the tide of battle and win close games.

I haven’t thought about some of those things.
Thanks for help.

Surprisingly, the class of infantry with which I help the most my fellow tank other than the obvious AT guy… is the sniper. I lost count of how many unsuspecting and rather stupid tank commanders I popped out because they had their heads out to see better. Alternatively, it’s easy to cover a friendly tank of running dinamite djihadists with a scoped rifle; being a certain distance away, they believe their run to your friendly tank is open… not!
