I have been flying a while, I have noticed something, I don’t know about how distance makes ballistics better or worse, maybe someone could explain but I have found cannons (20mm) to be far more affective against any aircraft when you are practically sitting on them, very close range.
Not sure if the damage drop off may be too high at a distance, that may be why players emptying whole mages.
But if anyone can corroborate what I say with videos , it would be brilliant!
I can short burst any plane with cannons and if close enough it will go down very quickly, parts fly off etc
But if I shoot at distance on a bomber for example, I can empty mg and cannon for it just to smoke.
Maybe it is damage drop off, I thought the caliber and distance did not make any difference, just increased likelihood of hitting…

It is DEFINITELY not Damage Dropoff, its the plane damage model fault.
I can consistently send planes in flames if close though?
Weird, I think I tried strafing some fighter with 20mm or 30mm when nearing and it seems to not do any single damage other than smoking but one 37mm shot on bf110 instantly set on fire. (sometimes)
Still probably plane damage model.
i think they bounce at times but its also the mad armor module allies have. Sometimes it wont take much to take them down though…Ive like small burst hitted an A20 once with 20s as it went down. Also against the infamous P47 which is ludicrously armored
It could be damage drop asw since ive noticed that my guns are more effective against inf on the ground the closer i get but im not 100 on that one since cant see where i hit them or not. I mean ive killed inf from 1k range to so…
@1942786 Hi, sorry are you able to confirm if there is damage drop in game for plane guns please?
Would also like to know what max distance is on the planes pls
for the guns that is. Keo if you could provide us this it would be much appreciated because ive seen bullets stop in mid air on other planes shooting
I think its around 1k give or take
You say it’s not with such conviction I wonder if you know something we don’t?
In my experience it does feel like it’s primarily a damage drop-off issue. For example: I notice frequently when I’m strafing infantry with canons and .50cal mgs that I get white hit markers indicating a hit but not even a down. In contrast: using the .50cal or 20mm guns on tanks I absolutely shred infantry.
I frequently kill pumas with the pintle mounted .50cal on the sherman; but when strafing them from the air with multiple machine guns I rarely do any damage.
Similarly when I have the entire enemy aircraft filling my windscreen I can cause fatal damage with a burst of fire while a burst hit from further back appears much less effective.
This is just anecdotal but due me it paints a picture of bullets that are losing strength too quickly

I think so, I think damage drop off is maybe too extreme. Need someone to test this really…maybe a series of tests.
Shoot aircraft when at different ranges, other plane fly straight and comment on damage received…
