Plane callouts

Why does it feel like absolutely nobody marks targets for planes

because absolutely nobody cares for planes lol

There is a difference between me marking targets as I see them, and marking targets at the very exact moment you demand that I mark them.
Just because I don’t mark a tank at the exact moment that you start a gun run, doesn’t mean I’m ignoring you. I mark tanks the moment I see them, because I hate tanks. The quicker you can get rid of them, the happier I am.

The predominant reason that I’ve gotten as a response to this (I take the time to actually ask players that I group up with) is that they don’t want to mark enemies that someone else can take the kill on. Essentially, they are greeding for the kills as its the only way to get the points from them.

You have a point, but also it should become common practice to mark areas when you notice them, whether or not someone is asking for the info.

This is something I have suggested before, and I truly think it would solve a vast amount of the issues regarding people not marking.

Huge pet peeve of mine, in game people always asking to have targets marked, like there brain has been turned off or something.

With all the tracers now in game it’s really easy to spot where the enemy is on the ground.

Red marks also kind of lie half the time, the enemy is moving…

Tank marks are useful though, but also largely unnecessary

You can almost always figure out where the enemy is, the maps are small and they basically always come from the same direction.

(This is from me personally, as I do use a lot of aircraft.)
I can figure out roughly where they are, that’s not a problem. The thing is though, what is better to do:

  • Guess where to drop the bombs, and have a good chance of missing the large group
    OR
  • Have someone mark an area to give you a more informed idea of where to drop (You don’t have to drop directly on the marker speaking of “turning of their brain”, but use it as guidance in addition to the tracers and muzzle flash that you see.)

In addition, there might be 3 different areas you could hit, but by hitting a specific one you could reduce the pressure on your teammates.

Also tanks can be really hard to spot on some campaigns when they´re not shooting. Back when I used to drive tanks on Normandy Axis I got the habit of not shooting and standing still when I heard a plane.

Need enemy coordinates

Part of my issue with the red marks, is, as I noted above they tend to lie, I’ve dropped on a lot of red marks, and gotten skunked, I find that if I use my head and drop on what I considered to be known positions, I tend to fare much better, that might even mean not dropping and doing another pass.

I actually think it’s far too easy for aircraft to kill tanks, so while I do spend a lot of time flying, I’m not in favor of making it easier to kill them because I also like to use tanks.

It’s far too easy to bomb them or rocket them, or even strafe them dead imo.

On some maps this is more true than others, when I’m in my tank I also try to avoid using my main gun if I think there’s aircraft around because that is a dead giveaway.

Tunisia, is usually pretty easy to spot tanks on, so much so that you can have to be smart when you’re using them and try to hug a building or get under a tree if you can find one or park on the reverse slope.

In the Pacific, the American tanks are actually easier to spot than the Japanese ones because they’re darker camouflage seems to stand out more.

On Moscow it seems about pretty even I don’t really sense that it’s any easier playing Russians or Germans to spot the others tanks.

Normandie. It’s really just about seeing them fire, I can usually spot them pretty easily.

But again, the bottom line for me is I really do feel that it’s far too easy for aircraft to kill tanks in the game, I wouldn’t go so far as to say, I feel guilty about killing them when I do it, but it is really easy.

Because most people asking for marks are …
1.) Gonna ignore those marks anyway
2.) Not gonna contribute meaningfully to the team objectives
3.) Both of the above

There are rare exceptions where someone is really trying to be a team player on CAS, but most of the players who can be half way useful bombers either know where the enemy is coming from or can read the battle from above, and therefore don’t need to spam for marks.

A good rule is that if you need coordinates, you are probably not helping your team.

Also, the message makes you sound needy. They should add “air support incoming” to the chat as an alternative…
