Pilot/Flying suggestions

I really enjoy flying and would love it to be improved with some of these balance and quality of life changes. I’d be happy if even just a few made it into the game and all these come from a place of love for the game. So, in no particular order

Quality of life changes:

  • 1 - Places to land planes and repair/respawn (dirt airstrip, 1 per side or 1 shared strip for extra fun)
    ^ New idea: Airstip/s to land and respawn, giving you and your squad XP as well as refunding your team tickets (credit to: @53686420 @Chickydoodles)
  • 2 - More detailed map (like infantry get)
  • 3 - Add scaling grid to map (Numbers on Y axis, letters on X axis)
  • 4 - Reset zoom when map is toggled off (could be automatic when closing the map or a keybind press when the map is open)
  • 5 - Engine temperature on HUD (like flight stamina)
  • 6 - Working mirrors in planes work
  • 7 - Ear protection that can be toggled (would reduce situational awareness BUT my dainty little ears get annoyed after long flying sessions)
  • 8 - Brighter / bolder yellow crosshairs (better contrast against sky)
  • 9 - Add 50kg bombs to all fighters (could be just 2x 50kg) especially in Tunisia

If I could pick only one, it would be landing and repairing planes.
I love the idea of surviving a dogfight / escaping a fighter in a bomber; successfully landing, hopping out and praying no one strafes the airstrip while you repair, taking off and performing your role again. All because you were smart enough to prepare (equip toolbox), escape the enemy/win the dogfight, land successfully (it’s harder than it looks) and once again survive while repairing then taking off. Saving your team tickets instead of respawning.

Imagine waiting for 1 minute (exam​ple) to repair​ing your plane only for the defend point to be captured and taking everyone plane slot and you get everyone to shit about you for taking their plane slot. Also, is it better to suicide bombing to get back to the battlefield faster than just rearming and repair​ing the plane at airfield before coming back and drop the pay​load again? :thinking:

I probably “agree” with this idea though but alongside it still have disadvantage like what I mentioned above.

Only an noob pilot would have said this xD youre more effective staying alive no matter what plane you have. This because of many facts.

1 of them is that youre more aware of the battlefield being active longer and can see things you cant see on the ground

  • Suicide bombing actually hurts your team being attackers so stop that destructive behavior…should be for defenders to so hope they solve that issue even if its an hard nut to crack

I really disagree
I consider myseld an ok pilot ,but even at the best of times i struggle to match my infantry performamce in a plane, now imagine how useful a new player would be in a chaika trying to strafe when the skiea are clear

I personally dont think we should have airfields as that would allow people to hog the airplane slots all game( at least even more than they already can)

Edit: Maybe have it so you can land at an airfield to get bonus xp and a partial ticket refund to than go to a diffrent squad

airfields might be to much perhaps and can agree on that, but being able to land and repair i think would be an better option somehow but then pilots need some extra baggage hold since i wouldnt want to be without an medkit. Also manage to crash land and jump out alive should get you back to the bf ofc :slight_smile: Not on sea though

There should definitely be some benefit or bonus that incentivizes players landing over crashing to the ground. And here is an example of a system that could work:

  • Refunding tickets used for attackers
  • Provide a good chunk of bonus XP to pilots and/or pilot squads on a successful landing.
  • Player then gets sent back to squad selection to give the returning pilot time to rearm in a different plane.

I love flying myself but I can agree with people that dont want people to hog the plane slot all game, it is on me to keep my plane healthy if I want to be flying long.

Carrier landings would be cool tho :smiley:

This as well, I should be able to respawn in the front after a successful emergency landing instead of just dying.

I reluctantly agree due to the limited number of plane slots, though I wish I could fly for as long as I could survive.

I like the ideas you guys mentioned about being able to land and get rewarded, even if it means you finish flying and go back to the respawn menu. It’s a great compromise between being rewarded in XP and satisfaction from suviving and landing but also not ‘hogging’ the plane slot all game.

I love all those ideas and would like to expand on the first one: planes must take off from airstrips on spawn.

This has almost completely eliminated suicide bombing in the pacific campaign, and it gives more depth to the air game.

Of course there is the beach landing maps where the allies would have no landing strips. In that situation they’d just have to keep the existing system, just pushed back further to compensate for the extra time axis planes would need to get in the air.

I’d also like to see an option to return to base and respawn as infantry without costing the team tickets.
