Miscellaneous Info: | To provide heavy fire support for the British Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS), Russian Armored Car Division’s expedition to Russia, the Pierce-Arrow Armored Lorry (Truck) was designed and built on the American Pierce-Arrow 5 ton truck chassis. Only two (2) vehicles of this design were built. The Pierce-Arrow chassis was selected because of the great service the lorries had already provided to the Royal Navy as cargo/utility lorries. It was also successfully used as the base for the Royal Marines’ Pierce-Arrow Armored Anti-Aircraft Trucks. |
Reportedly, soon after their arrival in Russia, it was discovered that the vehicles were too heavy for consistent use due to the primitive road conditions they encountered. Therefore, at least one (1) of the cars was modified to reduce its weight. *****This was accomplished by removing its turret and replacing it with a gun pedestal/shield arrangement. Also, flat armor plates were also added to the rear sides.|
