The weapon model in the game is actually the 1938 model. The weapon design was created at the request of the military. The Armaguerra Model 1939 was a similar model.

The 1942 model was a copy of the Soviet SVT.

The date on the weapon may suggest the year of manufacture. Not the production model. It could be the 1938 model produced in 1942. For example, the MP40 is the name of the weapon. And some copies had the date from the year of production stamped in them. For example MP40 1943. etc.
