Paratrooper Hard Landing Perk

With the ridiculous changes that made paratroopers open their chutes egregiously early then float down like dandelions into enemy fire, there is no point to the “hard landing” perk. Either remove it from the game to eliminate the confusion caused by letting players think that paratroopers will actually be able to make hard landings or add hard landings back to the game.

My suggestion is to make the squad follow the leader on opening:
If the player opens the chute early, the entire squad opens early.
If the player opens for a hard landing, they all open for a hard landing and must have the perk enabled to avoid serious injury. If this capability were only re-enabled for premium paratrooper squads (keeping event paratroopers as-is with the jump nerf) that would still be a measurable improvement to the game.

tell me more about this jump nerf, paratroopers now must open their chutes higher?

I don’t see the issue. Don’t open your chutes too late. Job done.

From your reply, you completely misunderstand the issue or

There is a “hard landing perk”, it’s called reduced parachute fall damage. Sure your bots will still pull their chute at the same height but realistically it should be a static line anyway, so I’ll take what I can get

Yes. Noobs were complaining that they couldn’t defeat paratroopers, so paratroopers were nerfed so that all AI controlled troopers stopped performing combat jumps, open their chutes extremely early, and float down like dandelion poofs so that enemies on the ground can shoot them in the air. If you drop your lead trooper with a hard landing, he’ll be on the ground for about 30s before the 2nd trooper hits the ground (if he even makes it)

That won’t go down well with free to play players. Perhaps hard landings could be in the formation menu (when you pick if your bots are aggressive or passive)

based

but maybe instead of nerfing paratrooper jump just make them unable to drop directly on cap, say 100-150 meter radius off cap is droppable

If they want to speed the drops to mimic a realistic combat jump (with realistic combat chutes) and have them open with a static line, I wouldn’t have a problem with that. Every landing from a static line is a hard landing.

It’d probably be to slow for gameplay. If the troops where to hit the ground in a timely manner the plane would have to flight lower or the troops would have to fall alot faster.

If DF would want to restore combat jumps for all paratroopers (Premium and Event) I would not have a problem with that.

If DF wants to make “combat jumps” a premium perk of premium Paratroopers, I would also not have a problem with that.

The only scenario I do not like is where I paid for the 506th paratroopers then had them nerfed to reduce their effectiveness. It was a bait and switch

That’s what we’re talking about. If you jumped from a C47 on a static line with a WW2 chute, the landing is going to risk breaking your legs every single time. They are very fast chutes…for obvious reasons…you’re jumping under fire.

Sometimes I will pull my shoot so late that I will end up landing on the ground before my supply box does and then I will proceed to be crushed to death by my supply box. Its kinda funny ngl

I always land before my supply crate does. You time your chute with its chute

Kinda related to your topic. I would like to see more control of the chute when coming down and the bots following you if you change course a little. Obviously the Germans for example didn’t adopt a chute that could be controlled as well as other nations chutes but I wouldn’t mind a little creative liberty.

I want to see a Crete map with every German player automatically having paratroopers for that one map; it’d be a perfect setting for German low BR paratroopers. It’d be sweet if it could be done in such a way that every German player enters from the sky with their first squad (if player doesn’t have paratroopers, they get an honorary paratrooper squad for that first jump)

As far as controllability of the chute, I think that might be too much. WW2 era chutes were pretty primitive.

Other potential features aside, I want my paratroopers to fall together and land together like they are supposed to

Not cod or GTA levels of control. More like medal of honour airborne parachutes. (Just realised in GTA online it’s not a parachute it’s a glider, still i don’t want to see that level of control of the parachute.)

I think that might be something that could work as a squad perk. You either choose “fast chutes” or “control chutes.”

I agree with you, I would prefer hard landings for every paratrooper (all of us opening at the same time); however, I don’t want to see the hard landings perk completely removed—even if it’s just for myself. I always open low to the ground to beat the drop box so I can quickly selected my gear. It also gives me time to find a hiding spot for my paratroopers.

The suggestion to remove the perk was tongue-in-cheek. I don’t want “hard landings” removed from the game; I want hard landings restored. As of right now (with the nerf active) the only paratrooper who needs the perk is -as you mentioned- the jump leader who you control. That’s why the way the perk is done doesn’t make any sense. There needs to be a means for the other paratroopers’ “hard landing” perk to be utilized.

One way that I feel balance to paratroopers could be restored would be to add some additional dynamic involving the delivery vehicle’s altitude and speed.

There should be two combinations of height and speed: “high+ slow” and “low+ fast.” If you choose high and slow, you get the current behavior: all troopers float down but they float together and land together.

If you choose “low+ fast”, only the lead and 2nd trooper land at the jump point and everyone else combat drops in the travel line but spread out in a randomized jump radius. It’d facilitate additional gameplay, add some realism, and restore the ability to combat jump.
