Panzer IV J with Ostketten

Any reason behind the decision of Panzer IV J with the winter tracks on?

ostketten were developed for snow/mud on the eastern front hence the “Ost” (east) “ketten” (tracks)

german army did not have enough of them to supply all panzer 3/4 and stugs on the eastern front, i doubt a set made it to normandy.

Probably just a case of them getting the wrong model from WT. It’s a small difference that most people probably wouldn’t notice when implementing the models.

During the ardenne offensive Tank divisions from the eastern front were send to the western one, that way you might see tracks(or equipment) from the eastern front on the western front. But I agree that normandy is too early for that.
