Yes, another one. I play both Berlin and Normandy, and these are my experiences:
Normandy: Panthers are virtually untouchable. They sit in the corner of the map, often more than 100m passed the dead zone borders and donk any tank that comes up against them. Stuarts v panther? balanced af. Jumbo can shrug off panther shots for a while, but the 75 M3 is helpless against the front of a panther, especially at range, without its HVAP rounds. The only inconsistency in the panther’s god status is its weakness to P-47 mini nukes and the M8’s bugged HEAT rounds and boy, the M8 is its own can of worms.
Berlin: Panther is only a very slight upgrade to the panver iv J. T-34s seem to just shrug off rounds like they’re IS-3s, meanwhile every one of the 85 cannons can easily donk the crap out of you from range with ease. It feels, from the panther’s POV, that the 80mm UFP has the ancient Krupp Stahl modifiers from WT, and shells are just cutting through it randomly. Enlisted also seems to be pixel based for tank shells, as the 85 loves to OHKO panthers through those tiny turret cheeks, meanwhile the panther’s beefy 7.5cm fails to cut through the T-34’s own turret reliably, and hull shots seem to be RNG based and no, im not shooting the driver hatch.
I also play allies in both campaigns, and while i dont have the T-34-85, only the D-5T, it does seem to hold up from the T-34 POV. The D-5T has less armor, but the rng is still there and without a doubt, i pen a LOT of shots i have no business penning. As for post pen damage…
Yea, from both ends: The panther often takes 2 or 3, sometimes up to 4 shots to kill a single T-34, while the T-34 is a reliable 1-2 hit combo breaker. From the side, both are relatively equal in post pen.
I’m not saying the Panther should be this untouchable god tank that eats T-34-85s for breakfast and strikes fear into the engines of IS-1s, nor am i saying T-34-85s should turn into a nice neat scrap cube from a strong breeze, but the inconsistency has ruined the tank action in the game for me. I feel like individual skill and vehicle usage dont amount to very much if my shells are this inconsistent (and in the case of normandy, the matchmaker puts stuarts against panthers, and long barreled 7.5cms are deemed equal to a 75 M3)
PIATs are also sketchy as hell, theyll direct impact a puma 3 times for no damage then OHKO a panther through the ufp, or a Pz IV H through its skirts at a 150 degree angle
yes, because they face each other in the game.
Ignoring that is the same path that war thunder took, where 1960s stabilized MBTs with APDS and HEATFS faced 1943-1949 designs
again, this is the path war thunder followed.
“of course the conquerer mk 2 is better than a tiger ii, if it wasnt why would people grind it???”
i invite you to actually grind that path and be the guy with a springfield facing MG-34 patrommel and MP43s with unleveled squads, no perks on 1-3 star soldiers. It aint fun chief.
Different concept, war thunder has br mechanism but enlisted did not have. Having high br tank means you may see a higher br tank. Grinding high level tank in war thunder is just earning ticket into high br battle.
historically speaking, the Panther tanks gun was powerful enough to destroy ANY allied tank that saw combat during ww2, yet it struggles sometimes to penetrate the frontal armor of the T34, which had only 45mm of armor.
In fact the only tanks that were “comparable” to the firepower of the Panther were US tanks with the 90mm gun, like the Jackson, or the Pershing which was overall a “better panther” still both could take each other out easily. Also Powerful was the British 17pounder on Fireflies.
On the soviet side only the ISU 152, Su 100 and the IS 2 were comparable, while only the SU 100 has been actually designed to be an anti tank vehicle. The IS2 and the ISU 152 could get the job done, but these tanks were primarily used as breakthrough and artillery support weapons.
That is all facts, the Panther was Germanys best anti armor fighting vehicle that was being produced in “reasonable” numbers, despite its reliability issues. Yet sometimes it struggles to penetrate the T34, which is ridiculous since even the Panzer IV H and J had it easy to take out T34s, or actually even the Panzer III with its L60 could fight back T34 armor.
45mm of armor is practically nothing even if it has a great angle.
untrue, Enlisted’s level system works very similarly to war thunder’s BR system, IE, a level 18 player will see anyone from 15-23 on a regular basis, but very rarely will they see a level 30 or a level 1-5 player. in my experience, this does hold true. I can count the number of panther engagements on one hand in Normandy before i got my Sherman, after my sherman i see them about one every 4-5 battles.
Berlin allies never say this, in fact most berlin axis wont even say it because those maps are downright brutal for armored players, which both makes it very balanced but also can be very frustrating when theres a looooong street and an enemy is sitting at the end waiting for you to round the corner, but theres simply no feasible way to flank at all, or engage the enemy without exposing yourself heavily to gain any sight, let alone a clean shot.
