Yes you should not be able to use a MG42 like an M16, and back in CBT running and gunning with DP mgs and Mg34s was something ppl were doing all the time ( me included ).
Now if we just ignore the “realism aspect” for one moment I would like to point out that MGs had massive drawbacks to them compared to Smgs, which overall made them balanced compared to other options.
So here is why I think that “from a balance perspective” MGs never deserved the big nerfs to begin with, rather a “rework” would have been a better change, so yea here 3 points to think about:
Assaulters can run faster than MG gunners- which is a great benefit in a game where you constantly need to push forward, in order to win the game.
Assaulters have access to the 35+HP perk, while MG gunners dont- which is “more or less arguably” the best perk in the game
MG Squads get 3 MGs in a squad - Assault squads get 4 assaulters (+Assault squads get to pick a MG gunner extra)
So these 3 points were the reason why MGs have been overall better weapons than SMGS - because they were supposed to be superior, thus the drawbacks to the MG squads.
So there was no reason to “nerf these squads”, and hey… also now there is little reason to pick a MG over a STG, FG or ppsh to begin with, because these weapons are now almost as powerful as CBT MGs.
you can use a MG like an assault rifle. Standing, and aiming at shoulder.
This nerf is stupid. Not because now you always have to use the bipod to be efficient with the MG. But because the Bipod mechanics still need some improvment, unlike what the dev patch said.
yea that makes sense, especially the MG42 is extremely “front heavy”, meaning while the mass helps negate most of its recoil, it still will be very hard to control, since most of that mass is in front of your hands.
actually not a bad gif, it pretty much shows why mgs are not really shoulder fired.
Even tho he controls the recoil, the gun still sways from left to right because he cant manipulate “fast enough” where the tip of the weapon is supposed to be aimed at.
Can vary greatly, but I say something like 15-20 to 1.
As I have maxed out all campaigns (on Axis) there is no other use for silver troop orders for me.
Usually I have always the highest tier classes with max perk roll, beside trooper III’s as I prefer trooper II’s for their base perk!
Per point in speed your soldier has +0.5% run speed (which also affects sprint speed), per vitality point you gain another +1% stamina and per point in weapon handling the vertical recoil gets lowered by -0.5 percent.
So a maxed out gunner II has +8% run speed, +16% stamina and -11% vertical recoil.
Btw radio operators II are the only infantry class that is able to have 22 speed, which enables them to have +15% sprint speed and +10% run speed plus another +11% run speed from the 22 speed points. Give him a officer sword and he feels like Sonic ^^.
Do you find having the +15% sprint perk makes a huge difference?
I haven’t tested it a lot but I find the -75% bandaging perk so powerful that I’ve preferred it so far over every other in the Speed category.
Quite similar to the recoil reduction perks. Horizontal recoil reduction costs more which makes it appear like the better perk but I had the impression so far that vertical recoil reduction is the way to go. Not sure about Stalingrad though with its new weapon handling mechanics where MGs appear to sway a lot more horizontally.
It really depends on playing style I’d say. I like my otherwise slow lmg guy to reach position quickly to set up my lmg. But being back on your feet after just 2 seconds is definitely a huge advantage too.
I couldn’t say which is the best. Really depends on how you play
I pretty much slap +15% sprint speed on pretty much everyone! But I also play with big ammo pouches. Why? Because I quickly figured that my main reason for dying is running out of bullets. Also I confess, I use automatic weapons A LOT, like SMG’s, Assault rifle and lMG, as I pretty much mastered recoil I can just hold the trigger till a guy is dead, down than dead fraction of second in-between. Often than while still firing I move to the next target (if there is any). So against a player like me, the perk is pretty much a waste. If I use a semi I keep firing until the enemy is dead and than switch to the next target.
I love using the sprint perk on troopers II’ with their base spring perk, in Berlin and Normandy I have one with the German officer sword and the Gewehr 43 Kurz, I speed run to a good (flanking position) and usually always do first blood.
