If campaigns like this were a things, I would love to see operation unthinkable.
We could see things like IS-3, some weird post-wwii experimental weapons and vehicles.
But I bet lot of people would hate it. Calling it just COD-like fantasy.
I don’t think the campaign is in order, as the new BR is going to take place.
But as map packs? Sure.
I think Warthunder even has maps, heck, even a dynamic Sea Lion Operation campaign, though, I don’t think I’ve seen London or other British cities in land battles in warthunder. Only aircraft.
Have fun explaining this to the HA players why a fictional operation should be added. It could be interessting but you could just use dunkirk if you want germany vs britan (and french rearguard if they feel like it) at that timeframe.
I think it is necessary to balance Allies and Axis, since Allies usually have more players, if there should be at least one map where USSR and US could fight each other only when there arent enough Axis players.
HA purists are a pain in the less noble side.
We have WW2 stuff with realistic well built maps that are based on real locations ( you can even recognise famous sites from Stalingrad or Berlin) why dont they understand that most people are not looking for a milsim.
I understand the sentiments of historical accuracy purists but I think everyone has their own particular standards and where they draw the line. I find I’m a bit of a combination between historical accuracy and immersion and sandbox
I’ve said it so many times before but one of the reasons I love this game and got it in the first place because it’s the WW2 sandbox I’ve always wanted. I love that this game has content from the very famous, well known, mass produced, to rare and lesser known to the prototype and experimental. Anything and everything.
But as I said, we all draw our lines somewhere. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Panther F in game, I’d just prefer it be added in the period it fitted into. Or the Panzerfaust 150 as long as it’s in the final battles in the fall of Germany.
Campaigns are going to be removed from the game for the upcoming major update but I do believe in the future they will return and we will be able to choose specific map sets, theaters, or as we do now campaigns in general. Overall the game focuses on the roughly historical timeline.
Theoretically WW2 What If campaigns could be added if campaigns return in one form or the other. Note that this doesn’t change the game’s current sandbox of having experimental content and such, just the scenarios and battles. For example, the Soviet prototype RPG-1 could be added to the game as regular content just like all the other experimental stuff, but a US vs SU battle would be its own “campaign” with their content clashing together.
dont worry… there are believable HA people.
they accept what if scenarios, if they are somewhat believable and in line with (some kind of?) history. like current campaigns.
just dont ask me to explain their logic.
HA purists are least of the problem. most of the people just use HA as an excuse to keep status quo in the game. they either want current campaign system to stay, or to have wide variety of weapons inside battle without BR system.
i would actually like to HA version of enlisted where squads are actually equipped like their counterparts for certain year. but i am allergic when people use HA as argument and they still want to enable meta fedorov builds.
For example battles of Khalkhin Gol in 39.
But I would prefer invasion of Manchuria. Which is region big as Germany and Italy combined. Yet people completely ignore it, since nuclear weapons were more cool.
I know, I just mean general expansion of who can fight who over time. I see that starting with historically accurate matches and then being expanded as necessary to keep matches populated.
People ignore it because it should be very late war Soviets vs Japan which obviously would be an uneven match. Though with BRs it’s not really going to matter so whatever flimsy justification they have to increase map diversity is fine by me.
That’s not really true. Except T-34/85, not very good tanks were used. Since there was like only 1 railroad is USSR that could transport vehicles to the east (=meaning no IS tanks, since all of them were prioritized on the west).
For example tanks like BT-7 were still used during this operation.
Plus at thisnpoint in war, you PPSH with box magazine should more common. So low to mid BR would still look at least little bit realistic. It wouldn’t be perfect, but definitely not terrible. Especial since we already have very rare weapons in free progression for Japanese, there’s no reason to add more of experimental vehicles to counter T-34/85.
I think it would have more positives overall than negatives.
US vs USSR would complete fantasy until Korean war, sadly.
