I keep hearing that Open top AFV’s are not really in game terms, that you can’t kill the crew with small arms ?
My suggestion would be to fix this, but then again given the nature of the map’s and the lack of appreciable stand off ranges on most of them this might be… unwanted ?
I would say no. I prefer 100% an AFV driver who plays active next to the infantry. If the top is open, they´ll camp somewhere save and far away.
A compromise would be:
Crew killable with mortar and artillery strikes?
Which is totally unrealistic, for tanks, mortars especially so, indirect fire even Bombs from planes rarely killed tanks in ww 2, especially late war tanks
I totally understand your point here but what else do you want to do? No one would use them actively if they die within seconds of close combat engagement.
Well, ya, but tanks die that fast anyway, most of them, many players rush into the capture point and get killed by a TNT bundle in a heartbeat, some players including myself try and Hang back to survive a while, so for them being open toped would not mater as much.
I agree it would be a problem making them even more vulnerable, as nobody would select them given more survivable options were available
I have definitely had crew killed and killed crew by firing into the open top of American afv’s. Molotovs work as well.
