On bolt action balance and cooperation with people you queued with

On bolt action rifles: I’ve recently reached the point where I can comfortably equip most of my guys with G43/Garand and it feels like bolt actions will be obsolete by the point most people have semi auto guns on their troopers/specialists and SMGs/MGs on the main guy they spawn with, and I don’t like that because the bolt action vs bolt action gameplay is really fun.
Whilst that is already in the game to an extent, I’d like to propose making it even more likely to get downed but not out when shot with a semi auto/smg/mg, as well as introducing medics to the game - but making bolt actions always full kill on close and mid range to keep them relevant even when everyone has access to ‘better’ guns. Medics would prioritize healing downed team mates over shooting, prioritizing squad mates, potentially dragging downed soldiers to cover first if the AI ever gets that smart.

On cooperation with your friends: It’s really hard to play “together” right now. Playing queued with friends feels the same as queueing alone because you don’t really interact with each other. I’d appreciate being able to see the names of friendly players over the soldier they are currently controlling. As a side effect that would make it possible to report griefers who destroy friendly machine guns/ammo boxes/etc.

I don’t like bolt action. it’s just not fun for me.

Why full kill?
Lee-Enfield, and Garand have the same ammo (7,62x51mm)
So, if the Enfield have one hit kill, the garand do the same.

Bolt action is just for don’t start with good weapons, if you start with good weapons, why grind?

+1 for the marker advice. Diferent color on the map, or above the head will be good enough.

I really like this idea! And the marker too! it would make a huge difference in the gameplay!

Er… what? 7.62x51 NATO standard was only adopted during the cold war and only some of those guns were rechambered for it (a few lee-enfields for snipers). In WW2 the Garand and springfield fired .30-06 caliber, Lee-enfield fired the British .303, Kar98 fired 7.92x57 Mauser, the mosin the 7.62x54R etc. Thats not even counting the difference in muzzle velocity due to different length barrels.

Historical calibres aside bolt actions shouldnt be guaranteed OHKO, last thing id want to see is COD style death by getting shot in the toe, if this becomes an issue then semi autos should just be more tightly class restricted. Maybe reserve it for the troopers to give them something to brag about?

True, i made a mistake. looked it up only the hungarian wikipedia, both bullet is there, but in the english wikipedia there is a little more " (Postwar use by U.S.Navy)"

There’s a good reason why bolt action rifles were pushed out of military service as primary weapon for infantry. You won’t get anywhere by artificially making them better in comparison.

Maybe there needs to be a campaign set even earlier than Moscow where semi-auto rifles aren’t even an option. Also I’d say Moscow needs harsher restrictions on being able to equip that class of weapons.

As for Normandy, it can’t be helped. Garand was the most common weapon for USA (Germany still struggled to arm everyone with semi-auto rifles, but even they had a decent number of those in service if I remember correctly), it makes sense for it to be the same in game.

The hard core gamers hate that - the arguments I had about it in CBT

The Soviets made almost 2 million SLR’s - they had a lot of them in 1941 - of course they also lost vast numbers, but they were still pretty common as squad leader weapons for the whole war.

One of the problems with Enlisted and weapons is that he squad composition is nonsense - the various squads all from different divisions and regiments fighting together is just fantasy.

If they’d based it around an infantry platoon with “regular” squads (1-2 LMG, 1-2 other autos, rifles, etc) I think it would be much easier to fit in and justify some exotic weapons as part of some support units that are attached to your platoon for this battle for example.

I would have much preferred that. The use of squads could have allowed them to do some cool things that are otherwise impossible in multiplayer games. Things that would have pleased both those who value convenience and those who value authenticity. Instead they’ve mostly just implemented features that leave both groups annoyed.

Would definitely prefer proper section compositions (closest I can get is the assault squad with 7 guys rather than 8, 9 or 10) but then that would need the bot AI to be flexible and or actually know what they’re doing; with the gunner holding back to support and the SMGs spearheading the advance.

As it is that would just make a bigger cluster to run into enemy fire, but maybe once the bot AI gets into a practical state they could revisit the system and overhaul it (not that they would but I can dream)

Since I don’t know how to edit the main post and I don’t want to make a new one, I hope my suggestion is still seen in this comment: I’d really like markers only the guys you queued with can see. Would be a lot nicer for communication than having a marker the entire team can see and misinterpret
