I like to build defenses and I hate it when I hear that deconstruction sound, but I don’t want to see that ability dissappear. I think it can be a vital ability at times.
I do think it should be a little tougher to do, like not allow you to deconstruct while hiding behind cover with no line of sight to the construction
Ok here is the deal besides I wrote “Nope” and got flagged:
To take engineers in your squads is volunteerly not an obligation. To give engineers the only option to cut barbed wires would mean that entire entrances would be cut off. I am not talking about players which could jump over and take some damage but moreover the current bot programming. The path is blocked? They search a new entrance although that means that they run into MG fire but yet for the AI it’s considered as the safer option in memento as they don’t get damaged by the barbed wire.
Besides that I must point out that some campaigns (Tunisia) gives you access to your vital suggestion relatively late. That would mean that newcomers to certain campaigns would be left behind.
Furthermore, as a daily player, i would like to point out that the destruction of structures without playing as an engineer, in a fast paced game like that, takes already enough time to lose my bots while they seem to look elsewhere while Iam trying to get safe access to the cap.
As for the TNT suggestion. You can’t force people to use the pack. That would put the other options into the shadow for a vital necessarity in the game.
Your solution would require:
Engineers squads being a default squad
Engineers in all squads destroy or cut enemy structures by default
Bots would jump over it instead of searching a new path
Give an quick chat order to demand engineers for help
And we all know that that won’t happen.
Therefore I stick to my and my comrades answers:
Engineers are already obtainable early on in all campaigns. Yes, Tunisia is lvl 9, but thats really not that far.
If you look at the info from the incoming update, and comments made by the dev team on it, they are trying to make it more standard practice to have an engineer on most squads anyways. This also leads into my next point:
It requires engineers to put up fortifications. However, fortifications can be destroyed by TNT, grenades, Explosive Packs, tanks, aircraft bombs and cannons, etc. For something that only one character type can put up, there is an awful lot of counters. Most of these are being carried or used by players already. Limiting who can DECONSTRUCT these fortifications for basically no cost is far from disabling them from being destroyed. It would only force players to use more of the resources at their disposal to push forward.
In the instance of TNT it removes that mine slot that would perhaps otherwise be used for an AP mine.
In the instance of an Explosive Pack, it removes a grenade that might otherwise be used against those within the defended building.
In the instance of a tank, it removes a shell or two, or if done right, will keep them out of extremely lethal positions.
In the instance of aircraft, it stops a set of ordinance that would have absolutely obliterated the infantry.
All of these instances result in majority, if not all nearby fortifications being destroyed. It just serves to slow the attacking force by getting them to use more supplies as they go.
In addition, if they WERE to make this suggestion come true, it would likely increase the value of points for breaking fortifications down. Making taking an engineer in a squad even more valuable in addition to strategic value.
For those thinking only about how much it could hinder attackers, also consider that it makes offensive engineering more powerful as well. It would just require a slightly different mindset.
Unpopular opinion maybe but if you are using an engineer to build anything other than rallies and ammo crates then you are just being useless. The amount of times I’ve played matches were some guy is running around taking the time to build 10 miles of barbwire yet the only rally we have is the rally that I built is too high. I would honestly be happy if barbwire and sandbags were outright removed from engineer builds.
That’s the thing though. Sandbags and barbwire SHOULDN’T be useless. If the ability to deconstruct them was removed, they wouldn’t be useless. In the right circumstances as is, well placed defenses can make a HUGE difference, IF the team takes a moment to realize choke points that are created and safe zones that are implemented. Not everyone enjoys running in with endless assaulter squads until maybe you win or lose. There are plenty of us that enjoy setting up defenses to increase our chances of success. If you don’t like having to face it, there are plenty of games that don’t include the fortifications system like Enlisted has, perhaps those would interest you more. However, fortifications are already in the game, they are adding a new one in this update, and they have said they are adding more. Added power is coming to engineers overall, this is just something that will help with balance.
You may not see that now, but I assure you, in the near future, you will.
I don’t think that there are many folks around enjoying the building aspect - I am positive that most folks came to enlisted for “Warthunder with infantry” experience, or being disappointed in other MMO shooters, potentially set in world war 2.
This game does not advertise itself as ‘Minecraft replacement with sprinkles of WW2 realism’.
Game is to fast paced the only campaign were i have some time to build defense are stalingrad and tunisia, the other campaign simply are to cqc focused
Perhaps not on PC, even then that you are aware of.
HOWEVER, it is a major thing for a good number of console players. Console players opinions shouldn’t be tossed out the window just because PC has a different meta currently.
Also, like I said, the game is changing quickly already, and before you know it, engineers will be more necessary than ever.
How am i the one trying to dumb things down? I’m not the one pushing for more “run straight at the objective over and over again with no change in tactics.”
