The battle of the port of Cherbourg was a pivotal battle in the Normandy campaign. The allies hoped to capture the port to allow additional forces to land in France.
The battle was hard-fought, with street fighting and battles over key installations.
The map attached is based on the layout of Cherbourg around the WW2 era. There is plenty of opportunity to make defensive positions, as well as avenues of attack, between buildings and along open areas.
