Japan’s event squad isn’t getting an engineer. As someone who plays Japan often, I was really hoping for this squad to be a fun addition to my squad rotation. But this squad is lacking the utility that literally all my other squads have, building rallies. It may be too late, but could an engineer be added?
I was hoping we were making progress by adding engineers to things by giving old mg premiums engineers. Engineers really should be an option on all the event/premium squads.

Strange that they gonna introduce a squad with no engineer when popular demand asks for a eng on everything.

Because they dont have fancy HMG for rifle squads. Because thats apparently a must have to get engineers for our beloved premium and event squads.
Hmg is just for MG squads engineers.
I wonder if and only when they introduce assaulter, trooper, etc etc eng only stuff we see eng on other squad types.
I also wonder since I didn’t try coz I just remember now if MG event squad on tunisia (like the aus MG) can add a eng or not…

I think the Japanese rifle squad is following the template of the other “strictly rifleman” squads they introduced:
The Moroccan Auxiliaries on Tunisia (Berthier Carbine)
The San Marco Regiment on Tunisia (Moschetto)
The Volksturm squad on Berlin (Lebel)
The 66th Guards Regmt on Berlin (Mosin M44L)
I think it’s interesting that they aren’t simply making mirrors of each squad (the same thing for Axis as Allies). This also provides an option for people who maybe only want (or have the time) to grind one or the other…and to have something to choose from (some people might prefer a pure rifleman squad over an MG or SMG squad).
I think a lot of critiques come from people applying their personal play styles (and let’s be honest about it, “the meta”) to these rewards…I understand the viewpoint but I also don’t think it’s healthy to push it to excess. Part of the fun of these Gaijin games is the variety, or at least it should be.
I like that they aren’t making mirror squads, it allows for more variety. But your no engineer = more variety/playstyles argument is a little strange. In other premium squads with engineers, the engineers recieve the weapons of the other classes. The mg42 early engineers get mg 42s. If the japanese squad had an engineer, they would still have the unique rifle. If you wanted to play the squad like it had no engineer, you totally could. There would be literally no different between a squad with or without an engineer if that was your playstyle.
Calling squads with engineers the meta is a little unfair. There is nothing meta about a 5 man assault squad with a mid weapon or a 9 man bolt action squad. Giving these squads engineers just brings them up to par with low to mid level squads. Engineers are available to all free squads, quite literally all free squads have the functionality to build rally points. Not giving this functionality to event squads just directly removes utility from them. Building rallies is very important to winning, but if people were concerned about the meta they would never use these event squads.
