New WMD for engineers

Engineer class should get artillery howitzers

Unfortunately the minimum range of artillery is too long for it to be effective on virtually all maps.

Besides, we have artillery with the radio operator!

I’d assume they could fire straight rather than up lel

They could, but the sights weren’t designed for it, so you’d be essentially be ‘hip firing’. Some guns had telescopic sights but they weren’t standard issue

what ReachForTheSky said. Not only would it be unrealistic but you also have radio operator artillery and mortars. Really don’t like the idea of another long range explosion spam.

I’d like to point out that there were in fact light infantry guns used for direct fire support in breaching defenses positions and use against structures.

The engineer class being able to swap out in the squad customization menu an AT gun for a more general purpose light field gun might be cool.

The leichtgeschutze 40 was a recoiless rifle issued to the fallschirmjaeger. I believe the LG40 did come with a HEAT round but it was designed to be a general purpose fire support weapon.

Leichtes infanteriegeschutze 18 was a 75mm stubby howitzer the Heer used. Max range of only a couple kilometers. Meaning it was meant to be laid in and fired with direct line of sight.

Germans also had the tiny little Puppchen. Although this was specifically designed as an Anti-tank weapon. IIRC it’s first round hit probability was more than double of the rpzb panzerschrek.

TLDR: There’s room for engineers to have variety. IMO

Oh yeah for sure, I’m aware of light infantry howitzers. But ‘artillery’ generally refers to cannons designed for long-range battery fire.

Those guns you mention could still be a fun addition though.

These guns are what I was thinking about, because engineers are pretty limited.

Yeah that would be a cool addition.

Though as the war progressed, those out-of-date guns increasingly fired HEAT projectiles to make up for the fact that their HE shell was too small for WW2 combat.

That being said, I could see a small AT weapon firing HEAT projectiles, much like the PIAT, but with better accuracy and range.

LG40 was fielded 1941 and I believe stayed in service the entire war.

The Raketenwerfer 43 was fielded in1943 and almost immediate discarded for the Rpzb panzerschrek. The remaining inventory of Puppchens remained in service and were rather effective in defensive positions.

It uses the same rocket as the panzerschrek but it’s fired like a recoiless rifle instead of an electrically timed rocket motor, offering an increase in 150/fps.

At 200lbs outside of a shoulder fired system, it’s fairly light for an AT weapon.

Oh yeah, just give them pure HE and a higher capacity than AT guns.

Single barrel flak guns could operate on the same principle.

Or 40mm pom poms.

Regardless I’d like to see Engineers expanded upon greatly

well you can expect that engeniers things to build will surley expand and be upgraded !! so static artillery why not

More artillery! MORE!
