I’m almost done leveling up all my squads so now I have nothing to do. I also dislike the lack of customizability of the weapons, like not being able to attach a low zoom optic on my Mosin sniper rifle.
In addition, people complain how there are no downsides to bayonets, especially with the fact that bayonets can even reduce your recoil.
Finally, players complain about how they have too much squad change orders. This system will make squad change orders more useful by allowing players to also change how they personalize their weapon.
As a result, I propose a new weapon upgrade system which grants players more customizability with their weapons.

This system will have players decide whether they want a bayonet or better reload speed, so there will be a purpose to not equipping a bayonet. Players can also pick between fire rate or recoil control, and spread decrease or muzzle velocity increase. When they reach the final upgrade, they can increase the damage of their weapon.
Also please note that this image is an example of what my suggestion could look like and not final. You could probably add multiple buffs in one upgrade, so it if you picked the third button to the right, you could get muzzle velocity increase AND -10% horizontal recoil for example.

In addition, this upgrade system will allow players to change the zoom of their sights. I dislike 8x zoom on snipers and prefer ~4x zoom so this can be another benefit to having more customizability in weapon upgrades.
You could probably use this system for tanks and planes too.

STG44 can’t have Bayonet (while AS-44 can) so how are you going to solve it?

replace the bayonet upgrade with another buff. Or just make it so reload speed buff is the only one you can get at the first upgrade

I would like to have something that would allow more cosmetic customization as well, like furniture and metal color change. But when it comes to attachments I guess that it could be done this way that TT stuff like grenade launchers and copy sniper rifles would just become attachable to standard rifles instead of being weapons on their own. This way for example could be possible to have a bayonet, and a launcher on a pedersen device springfield which would be great. I think that bayonets/scopes etc could be even removed during the game with some buttons

To try and chip in something helpful: I find this is actually a brilliant idea and would drastically help the “vertical progression” system be more open for experimentation and “strategy re-adjustment”. So I can explain.
As it is having one fixed upgrade system makes it a straightforward “ok it’s 3 stars whatever it’s done that’s it that’s all” but by implementing something like this IN MY OPINION I think it would help more experienced and loadout-maxxed players have a wider array of things to actually do and need to try out, thus, potentially more and new strategies altogether (beyond changing orders of upgrades and perks etc.)
It also helps the more intense battles between more experienced players where those specific weapon stats will really stand out and shift gameplay one way or another instead of it feeling like two bricks are smacked together until a pebble is left from one. Or, it could amplify that, I oppose none of it as long as the battle is intense.
And finally as much as it’s just an opinion it’ll help with players feeling somewhat more unique with what they are doing versus the usual “it just gets better and that’s it”, giving more incentive to revise what they just levelled instead of just always progressing from one thing to the next never needing to ever really re-visit anything regarding weapons.
