In my opinion, the High Caliber update is looking great so far. More utility for lmg squads and more buildable options are always welcome. However, these new HMG guns are only buildable for regular lmg squads and newer lmg premium squads.
Older lmg squads, such as the mg30 squad, now have even less relevance compared to regular lmg squads than before. These older premiums now cannot build HMGs or rallies and have fewer soldiers than competing squads. Which makes it hard to justify using them at all if you are trying to win.
I know that time and time again the devs have said they won’t/can’t edit old premium squads. Though this would be the easiest fix, there is another solution, though not as good. I have seen some discussion that premium squads should come with a squad slot by members such as @Conscript_Joe. I know that giving more squad slots is controversial, but alloting squad slots for older, much more obsolete premium squads would remove some of the competition they currently face with better squads. Allowing owners of old premium squads to use them without feeling like they are actively hindering themselves with the squads they paid money for.
The least that devs could do, is make them not require a squad slot - allowing the squads to take part in any battle for the person that purchased or acquired them.
But if not even that - yeah, they are next to useless, only useful for meming/quick XP farming.
Both suggestions you made are great. I would take either/or. I do not like leaving squads I’ve paid for out of the line up but they make it considerably harder to win a stand up fight.
What I suggest is that premium squads use their own, unique slots, USABLE ONLY BY THE VERY PREMIUM SQUAD This way you cannot have more slots than anyone to field regular, and let’s face it, better squads, but can still take your old mp28 premium 4 guys squad in Normandy for lols, when the opponent isn’t really challenging.
I hadn’t considered that, what a great idea! Having the premium squads so separate would allow you to keep using them even when your regular squads become more effective. This would even let you have more diversity in your regular squads, having more slots to experiment with different compositions or try new squads you otherwise wouldn’t have room for.
The XP bonus of premium squads is never obsolete. They are fine where they are. The only change we need is for older ones to include an engineer and maybe the capability to swap weapons to stay relevant but that waters down their uniqueness
Very true, however, I don’t think premium squads are all that good for grinding, even if they are marketed like that. I think Quadro or someone proved that. At least for me, the main appeal is the cool guns/cosmetics. In essence, I just want to be able to keep using premium squads without feeling that I am hindering myself/my team.
It would also be nice if they could dial down the dispersion on those mgs; especially the chauchat, which has the lowest rate of fire, highest recoil, smallest magazine, and the worst dispersion in the campaign
It´s kinda funny how bad the Chauchaut is. It used to be ok when it came out but after the LMG nerfs and other updates it now sucks at every range and only becomes vaguely usable with bipods. Thank god you can´t buy it anymore, I bought it when it and the MG30 squad where on sale and I still feel ripped off.
The Chauchat is extremely good. As good as the BerdanII is!
But yeah in truth, it’s a meme weapon. Why would we handicap ourselves with it? Df made CERTAIN it would be obsolete by refusing to add more soldiers in the squad, like engineers and other specialists…
