I know that squads at levels unlock weapons but playing new squads without new officer types really doesn’t make sense as you can just equip the new weapon or equipment on the old squad. - although I get that unlocking new character types may be doable in a fresh squad that has not yet leveled up.
If squads themselves had some special perks that differentiated them from others of the same type for instance the 916 grendadiers may have +10% run or another may have coordinated fire… another may be trained for long distance shooting, another is suppressive fire zones. Another may be offensive, or another may be more likely to attack a certain unit type like running to a sniper position or laying down suppresive fire. Other units may be more like to support a lead unit type like an engineer unit may be supported or protected. One unit may be better at building trenches or yada yada.
The idea is that each unit may have perks another does not by default for that tradition. This may have characters choose to play one squad or another rather than just add to an already developed squad. More reason to play new units that are the same unit type as previous.
… They already do… ? And I’m not talking about the bonus stats, but the starter perk… you should look it up it’s clearly indicated…

Ah how do you see this. I was clicking on the squads but they weren’t bringing up any squad information.
Just to clarify I expected unit data to come up like character data when I clicked on the squad in the choose which squad will participate in battle screen.
Also on the soldiers screen when clicking on the squads in addition to listing them it might be good to have the unit perks / bonuses under the picture of the squad characters.
You can see this on the campaing bar, where you unlock said squad (+ something % something speed!)
Or simply on your guy where you select perks. The FIRST perk up top is class related, you can’t switch it, it’s a bonus.
For example, a trooper 1 and 2 have different starter perks.

Yes I see that now, I didn’t realize there was sniper I and Sniper 2 class. but is the 35% breath holding for everyone in the squad or just sniper II’s in the squad?
yes the idea was to give a perk to everyone in a squad for being part of that squad seperate from their class. That is different squads even off the same type may do some things better than others or if there were ever squad abilities that those squads would be able to perform or the ai would act in a certain way for that squad different from how it would act in a different squad due to the characteristics of that squad
Those are not squad perks, but class perks. As in every sniper II, in ANY squad, will have this +35%. The squad itself is where you can upgrade the class (red tech tree).
Wich means that in the end, taking troopers 1 & 2 squads for example, you could have two completely identical squads of troopers to field (just fill the first trooper squad with troopers 2) if you upgrade them the same way. Its true for every squads. It can be useful if your play style is very aggressive, then field 2 assaulters squads!
Generally the “class 2” is better thanks to a more useful starting perk, but ESPECIALLY thanks to it’s higher bonus stats.
