New Player Experience

Throwing this out here to help since Steam reviews will be merciless.

I’ve been an off-and-on WT player since Air beta (2012 I think). I left until the recent economy/grind changes and I’m back to loving (most of) that game.

Recently started Enlisted in earnest. I’m liking it and it seems I came at a good time post-merge. I get the impression that while this game isn’t trying to be just ‘WT-With-Infantry’, it just uses the vehicle assets.

I’m sure some of these might’ve been heard before but here it goes.

The Good:

- Events/battle pass goals aren’t too grindy or overly narrow. I like that I can earn gold also (please increase though).
- Future ability to attain missed event awards (please for the love of all that is good no lockboxes).
- The battle flow in that there are stages and not just a map with 1-3 points to cap.
- Not a rigid ladder system - that we can skip some research.
- Unique vehicles when compared to WT, such as Motorcycles, APCs, and flame tanks. Bonus if mortar carriers and tank destroyers are added.

Needs to be improved:

- AI. It’s not that they face the wall when you tell them to defend that gets me, it’s when I have my Recon guy on his stomach crawling and I look back and there’s my Engineer upright and jogging like he’s at the beach. WTF dude.

If they are stationary for more than 30 seconds to 1 minute, they should automatically go prone or take a knee for immersion’s sake.

(If you want to make it really immersive have them throw rocks at each other if prone for more than two minutes, lol)

- Economy. The earnings for a match vs. the cost of outfitting a squad with basic issue equipment (pouches, canteens) needs rebalancing, just to be able to carry more than 30 rifle rounds.

- Stuka BR. Why is the progression I - III - II? Put the D5 at the end so people who are trying to gradually rank up their squads don’t suddenly find themselves getting laid out by BR-V premium Paratroopers and rage quit.

- Maps are claustrophobic. I get that this is an infantry-centered game, but you can’t play to vehicle strengths on the current map. Vehicles out of explosion pack throwing distance can be countered by AT guns, other tanks, or aircraft. See Hell Let Loose.

- Map boundaries should conform to the terrain. No army follows lines on a map, especially the US and German armies (the latter’s officers regularly ignored bad tactical directives). I’m not sure if the Soviets even got maps, lol.

- Recon squads should be allowed to go into the gray areas. That’s what they do.

- Vehicle camo/paint. Shouldn’t be all premium. Please adopt a WT system where some paint can be earned and some are premium. Also please add the option for premium vehicles.

- Decals. Same as above but IMO you could at least make it possible to earn a unit’s decal while others are premium.

- Adjustable cannon sights. One of the dirty secrets of WT Ground AB is that it’s easier to acquire a target at a distance by adjusting the sights rather than trying to fish around to get a green indicator. It also lets you take advantage of grazing/plunging fire for high-arcing rounds.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m liking the game so far.

Oh, and Britain should be it’s own tree with Italy eventually getting theirs.

I agree with everything here except

As you are new and may not have experienced it yet, its bad enough when players are playing to the edge of the greyzone (ambushing), and would be astronomically worse if the greyzone was just simply ignored.

If you want a RECON squad, you need to focus them on RECON, not just being able to walk into the enemy spawn and execute them there.

Spawn camping could be countered by either limiting the amount of recon squads similar to vehicles, or placing a smaller exclusion zone. Also they can do like WT and if you get too close to the basic spawns, everyone sees you on the map and the hud.

You still haven’t established how they would fill the RECONAISSANCE role though.

Just being able to walk in an area that the others is not able to doesn’t cut it.

They can mark units, snipe, mine, and destroy rally points. All things that recon units do.

Except Soviets, that wouldn’t be immersive, lol.

Sooooo, the EXACT same thing that literally every other unit in the game can do…
That doesn’t change a thing.

Recon units are intended to go beyond the forward phase line to find the enemy and make his day harder, going after logistics and soft targets.

That said I’m not stuck on the idea it’s just frustrating when the other team is taking advantage of the gray area, and if the maps get bigger it would be nice to have at least one infantry unit able to go deal with camping armor.

IMO, they need to incentivize and enable armor to move forward to better solve this issue. Artillery type tanks are the only ones that should be hanging back (and most of those have light enough armor an AT field gun can eliminate them.)

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, explosive packs need to be removed (AT launchers and TNT is still an option). Then tanks actually have a chance if they push forward to assist their infantry. Especially Heavy Tanks.

I agree that Explosive Packs need to be nerfed big time as they weren’t the typical way for infantry to defeat armor, plus a stick of C4 employed like that wouldn’t penetrate tank armor.

What they could do instead is add an interaction for infantry when on top of a tank that lets them drop a grenade down a hatch.

The playerbase desperately wants it to be though for whatever forsaken reason. The idjits

I see it as a competitor to games like Hell Let Loose that can take advantage of the work WT has put in yet still be distinctive.

They suggested one type of MM that would keep historical accuracy, but then the entire playerbase screamed they wanted Battle Ratings instead. Despite the fact those of us with WT experience and basic common sense tried to explain to them it would suck. Now you got a bunch of people whining about BR. But, they gotta lie in the bed they made. Screw em. I’m still having fun at least, although even now they’re trying to take THAT from me

I think there has to be some leeway and some sense of progression. If we were to be totally historical then the Axis would win every BR I match and lose every BR V match.

Maybe nations could have historical quirks that make them unique beyond different guns and vehicles. I dunno, maybe the Soviets get more troops but less ammo and don’t get rank 5, lol. I’m not a historian so I can’t get specific.

Thinking about the immersion aspect and my rock comment it would floor me if a game with a ranking system like this one would have troops behave differently based on their experience. Like if rank 1 squads did stupid stuff, goofed off, and chatted while at rank 5 they’re all steely-eyed killers, lol.

Which is another suggestion (I wish there was an edit option): if, like I suggested with decals, we could unlock new face/clothing variations as we rank up/get achievements to reflect that our squads have gone from fresh recruits to grizzled, scarred veterans.

It was a “Preferred Map” system where every piece of equipment had a map it wanted to appear on, maps it could appear on, and maps it will not appear on. Early war stuff would prefer early maps, late war would only appear on late war maps, stuff like that. But no EVERYONE hated that idea so we got stuck with War Thunder: Infantry Edition

There is an edit button. Bottom of the comment right next to the link button

Not for me apparently.

I don’t know then. I’m on my phone so no idea if it’s different for other platforms

One more thing: working bow machineguns.
