New Guinea map for pacific front

My current preferred map is the pacific war because I don’t think it gets as much attention as the European theater during WW2. And pretty much all games that do take place in the Pacific (Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, Call of Duty World at War, etc, etc) they are pretty much all focus on the US Marines and the island hopping campaign.

One thing that I have wanted to see for a very long time is a US Army campaign during the South Pacific during WW2. I mean I always wondered what it would have been like to see a campaign set in New Guinea, which is a campaign that seems wholly absent from most WW2 video games (except for IL-2 Sturmvoik, which does have that place an air war theater).

What do you guys think?

In reality, most of the Solomon campaign was U.S. Army even though most games have it Marines.

In fact, the Speed at which 25th ID took islands in the Solomon chain (mostly 15 minutes) is what earned them the Nickname “Tropic Lightning”

Late war they would also be a part of the Philippines campaign.

Nah, first we need Japanese vs Soviets maps/new campaign format.
Then we can add more maps for west allies vs Japanese

Although the more maps the better, I agree that Japan vs Russia option is a more urgent need for the sake of Japanese faction and the game in general.

Actually I have to agree! That has REALLY never been done before in any WW2 game.

Eh, Manchuria and Khalkhin Gol are mostly flat and not worth making maps of, and there are places in Pacific and Asia like the Philippines, Hong Kong and Burma which would make better maps and are more iconic despite also never being seen in media. Those places should come first.

It would be great if we can have more scenarios in the Pacific

The Philippines are good. There was both jungle warfare and serious urban warfare in that front. I think the Battle of Manila was a particularly vicious and bloody (as par on course with the Pacific War. Almost all the Japanese fighters perished in the battle). If they did do something in the Philippines the Battle of Manila map should center around Intramuros where most of the causalities happened. I also heard that there was a particularly bloody engagement in a sports stadium where the fighting took place on both halves as if it was an actual ball game.

New guinea would be very good to see japanese vs uk alone.
Well but they must seperate uk first

Exactly!

And it would create great opportunity for introducing Soviet paratroopers as well.

I think the Australians would be more appropriate. It was really close to home and the early days of WW2 Australian infantry had to fight really hard in the Kokoda trial campaign. I am not sure if there were that many British troops in New Guinea, but there were a lot of Australians there.

I’m not expert about that theatre, but could it perhaps be turned into a sort of “eastern front Tunisia”?

I mean, mostly open maps where one has to rely on shallow hills and valleys (or, why not, entrenchments) for movement and cover, and a few fictional but plausible buildings / villages scattered here and there?

Tunisia also has somewhat large and developed urban areas though, and that simply would not be plausible in Mongolia or Manchuria during that time period. It would simply be field with encampment followed by another encampment further up the field. Would become very frustrating to play, and is probably the same reason Tunisia was done instead of El Alamein.

Maybe. Albeit I can foresee a lot of very nice sniper duels happening!
