New Class Suggestion: Marines

New Soldier Class: Marines

Main Feature: Marine squads have access to a water spawn option on some maps and objectives. When they select the water spawn, they spawn in a landing craft vehicle. If the water spawn is not selected or the there is no water spawn available, the squad will simply spawn as any other squad does on regular spawn points.

Squad Composition: 1 Engineer and 5 Marines. Marines would be their own soldier type, but are not necessarily restricted to one weapon type. Similar to paratroopers, which have squads that are equipped with smgs, auto rifles, grenade launchers, and lmgs.

Gameplay Justification: This squad type helps open up maps with a lot of water to more dynamic gameplay options. Just as paratroopers give players more choice in where they deploy their squads, this squad would sometimes offer greater flexibility.

Note: Water spawns should also be available to all amphibious vehicles, an example being the Lvt(a)(1).

This change would allow amphibious vehicles to take full advantage of their special mechanic, instead of having to awkwardly drive from the land spawn point into the water. It may not make exceptionally bad tanks such as the Ka-Chi useful, but it makes them more special and unique to use.

Germany unfortunately doesn’t currently have many maps with possible water spawns. This could change if maps with more water bodies became available, such as in Sevastopol, Norway, Italy, or the Baltic States.

USSR

Similarly to Germany, the USSR doesn’t have many maps currently that would allow for water spawns. However, that could change if a map focusing on the invasion of Sakhalin against Japan was introduced.

Concerns

What if *blank faction* doesn't have many water maps where the special feature for marines can't be used? Then the squad would function identically to an event assaulter or lmg squad.

For example: We already have several premium squads that are marines or naval forces. These new “marine” squads would function exactly the same as those but with an extra feature.

I doubt that these premiums would be retroactively converted into marine squads, given that that did not happen for “airborne” squads with the introduction of paratroopers. But its possible.

.

In order for the amphibious landing feature of marines to be at all useful, all the landing craft need to be somewhat fast and offer at least some protection to the marines while they are in transit.

I had considered suggesting giving marines amphibious vehicles to deploy from, such as the DUKW for the US or LWS for Germany. But I think those are too slow and may be better off as amphibious APCs.

.

It might just be better to add them with smaller "assault" boats instead of landing craft. That way the water spawns can be used on more maps where the landing craft is too large.

These boats would be fast but very poorly protected. However, they would potentially have more spawn options as they are smaller. This would make the marines special feature potentially more practical.

Imo water spawn should be a standard option for all maps that allow it, no matter the squad.

Any real life or history argument doesn’t matter any more.

Really like the idea of: Invasion of normany but germany are the attackers :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: sounds fun

cool and interesting idea/concept, but you kinda answered the contra-arguments you raised yourself.

Considering all this, it would be a waste of time.

i liked this suggestion for the effort and sort of get behind the idea.

however, i’d argue such " feature " and squad could be just fitted as a rework for the rider class.

they get access to vehicles depending on the map.

if it has water, landing craft / assault boats.

if it doesn’t, basic truck or weaponized armored cars.

it could be hard imposed as a rule for the missions as well. since, you can do something similar for the editor.

P.s. for germany, they could either have the kriegsmarine, since we do have some frankestain type of uniform that resembles their uniforms,
( which, a newer uniform could be made, or just paint the eagle and rank tabs to be slighlty more yellow/orange

and did historically partecipated in few naval assaults ( also thought out as primary units for the later canceled operation sea lion )

or, the italian navy troopers 1st san marco regiment.

which we do have the uniform in the game

It could be cool, but my concern is that they wouldn’t be very useful on maps without a reasonable water spawn.

Maybe they could still be justifiable if they functioned more like or APCs? Or is that what you’re suggesting and I misunderstood? Give Marines the option to waterspawn in a landing craft which could function sort of like waterborne APCs, which allows allies to respawn in the vehicle.

Thank you for your post.

This is a great idea, well thought out. I would welcome this addition to the game.

I would suggest British commandos with British landing craft (the ones with sideways opening doors on the front such as the VERY famous video of Canadians landing on D Day).

Z Special Unit would be a nice premium with Australian commandos and the MV Krait.

I would also build on your post if I may.

For the Pacific I’d like to see ‘island hopping’ represented.
My idea would be objectives on different islands where the attackers use landing craft (such as the Higgins boat or Daihatsu barges) to transport soldiers onto each objective from the previous.

The tank or aircraft slot would automatically swap to a ‘naval’ slot. So each team would get things like PT boats or armed barges (Japan) to attack the other forces landing craft like real life.

Perhaps these naval squads could have folders so one might start out with an unarmed Higgins boat but be able to research and unarmed LVT for example.

My understanding of the post was if there isn’t a water spawn they just become regular squads. That seems reasonable to me.

I suppose these squads being a sort of water borne APC could work, especially something like a Higgins boat, drives up to the beach, drops the ramp and becomes a rally point.
