Main Feature: Marine squads have access to a water spawn option on some maps and objectives. When they select the water spawn, they spawn in a landing craft vehicle. If the water spawn is not selected or the there is no water spawn available, the squad will simply spawn as any other squad does on regular spawn points.
Squad Composition: 1 Engineer and 5 Marines. Marines would be their own soldier type, but are not necessarily restricted to one weapon type. Similar to paratroopers, which have squads that are equipped with smgs, auto rifles, grenade launchers, and lmgs.
Gameplay Justification: This squad type helps open up maps with a lot of water to more dynamic gameplay options. Just as paratroopers give players more choice in where they deploy their squads, this squad would sometimes offer greater flexibility.
Note: Water spawns should also be available to all amphibious vehicles, an example being the Lvt(a)(1).
This change would allow amphibious vehicles to take full advantage of their special mechanic, instead of having to awkwardly drive from the land spawn point into the water. It may not make exceptionally bad tanks such as the Ka-Chi useful, but it makes them more special and unique to use.
USA
Landing Craft suggestion: Higgins Boat
Weapon Suggestion: M1923 Thompson
Heavier thompson meant to compete with the BAR 1918, wasnât adopted.
AXIS
Germany unfortunately doesnât currently have many maps with possible water spawns. This could change if maps with more water bodies became available, such as in Sevastopol, Norway, Italy, or the Baltic States.
Landing Craft Suggestion: Pionierlandungsboot 39
Weapon Suggestion: Madsen m/41
Submachine gun produced in Denmark under German occupation.
USSR
Similarly to Germany, the USSR doesnât have many maps currently that would allow for water spawns. However, that could change if a map focusing on the invasion of Sakhalin against Japan was introduced.
Landing Craft Suggestion: DB Landing Craft
Weapon Suggestion: Kolesnikov SMG
JAPAN
Landing Craft Suggestion: Daihatsu Landing Craft
Weapon Suggestion: Madsen Short Barrel
The Madsen short was used be the colonial forces in the Dutch West Indies, which plausibly could have been captured by Japanese forces.
What if *blank faction* doesn't have many water maps where the special feature for marines can't be used? Then the squad would function identically to an event assaulter or lmg squad.
For example: We already have several premium squads that are marines or naval forces. These new âmarineâ squads would function exactly the same as those but with an extra feature.
I doubt that these premiums would be retroactively converted into marine squads, given that that did not happen for âairborneâ squads with the introduction of paratroopers. But its possible.
.
In order for the amphibious landing feature of marines to be at all useful, all the landing craft need to be somewhat fast and offer at least some protection to the marines while they are in transit.
I had considered suggesting giving marines amphibious vehicles to deploy from, such as the DUKW for the US or LWS for Germany. But I think those are too slow and may be better off as amphibious APCs.
.
It might just be better to add them with smaller "assault" boats instead of landing craft. That way the water spawns can be used on more maps where the landing craft is too large.
These boats would be fast but very poorly protected. However, they would potentially have more spawn options as they are smaller. This would make the marines special feature potentially more practical.
