New building options for Engineers

Engineers are mostly missused in game. In my oppinnion they should be given a bigger role in battles, and most significantly in invasion gamemodes.

Some new options for engineers to build:

Mortar emplacement (these were often part of infantry companys unlike heavy howitzers which were more often only attached to certain units from heavy gun divisions)

  • a heavy stationary mortar (120mm used by USSR/Germany, 107mm used by US) which is entranched in the ground and has its own ammo dump. Fire rate is slower then that of a light mortar but destructive power is significantly bigger. Obviously these weapons were not all accurate so disspersion would be hit or miss mostly. These would also be very exposed to plane attacks or enemy arty so if they are spotted can be easy to destroy. Limited to one per team.

New AA guns

  • current AA guns are lacklustering vs. planes and are mainly set to kill infantry along a long corridor or open ground. To increase their potential against planes I think they should be remade into new AA guns. Germany and USSR both used their own 37mm guns which were very effective, and US can use the 40mm Boffors. These guns would have shells that explode in air and damage planes this way, they would only have very very limited ammo to shoot at infatry, or non at all would be prefered. limited to 3 per team

Small wooden bunkers and camouflage positions

  • small wooden bunkers for 2-3 men to take cover in would be cool to build around the sides of a capture point or for the attackers to build and provide cover postions to push from. Camouflaged postions would be attachedable to AT or AA guns or built individualy on the ground as a one man postion from which he can bount his weapon.

Small trenches/foxholes

  • 1 to 2 man holes in the ground which provide good cover. These would be limited to only a few per side.

Tank repair / rearm station

  • a small tenk station where tanks can get repaired without crew leaving the tank and ammo resupply point since in invasion mode no side gets to rearm the tanks ammo. The ammo resupply would not be instant, it would take about a minute or 2 to resupply all the ammo. Also limited to one per team at any moment - also captureable by enemys or abled to be destroyed by planes.

Sniper/recon tower

  • camouflaged position able to be built on a high tree providing much needed elevation for snipers to be more effective and in general to spot tanks or enemys pushing around a flank. Limited to 2 per team and can be destroyed.

Signal smoke/ammo box
-rework to the ammo box we have ATM. Players would be able to take ammo from the box and pickup a collored smoke granade which can be trown to mark enemy postions. When smoke starts coming out this spot is instantly marked, this would help planes in lone fighters to know where enemys or friendlys are at.

wooden stairs

  • stairs would be nice to make the gameplay more dinamic since its sometimes very easy to block passagways or create kill zones which are virtually unbeatable. They would allow for attackers to get into some positions easier and for defenders to open up some new defensive postions which are currently not in use.

These changes for me at least would make engineers more usefull to teams. I would like some other changes too but I feel these (like minefields, long anti-tank obstacles) are views as too much for the game ATM.

I would say no to every single one of them.

Right now, engineers are the most efective soldier type for the sake of winning the batle(not xp makers as tankers or planes).

MG nests/spawn points are the most effective type of buildings you can build as an engineer.

People are yet to see the full potential of building spawn points, but, usually they are the ones winning battles.

Imo each squad could have it’s special building that unlocks after engineers are unlocked. Like for example AT gun for AT squad, engineer squad would be able to built a lot of basic stuff (as there are 6 enineers) and maybe also some special building.

But simply giving engineers every possible building withouth any restrictions is huge no from me.
Firstly because engineers are already really good class (if not the best one in terms of wining). Secondly, they are already overworked and building UI is a bit cramped.

Overall good suggestions, but i don’t think they will implement it. Mortars and AA guns are must needed, other things not so much

I feel like this is due to being in Beta. The AA in all 3 campaigns for all 3 nations are German x4 20mm.
This is probably appropriate for Moscow only. They’re probably using them as placeholders for the other AA that they haven’t finished the models for or something like that.

A thing I would add would be some basic barricades you can build on windows and doors. Reason being that right now, engineers build sandbags on them, which block not only the passageway, but also vision and are impossible to destroy without wasting a grenade or getting close to (also, they bug the AI, as they don’t know what to do). These barricades would be destroyable just by shooting, but would also have vision slit so defenders (and more accurate attackers) could shoot outside (or inside).

i agree with majority of them.

exept the mortar, tank repair station and the smoke ammo boxes.

the first, it’s not really needed. explosions, CAS, grenades, and mortars are already present.
no need for another cheesy toy for easy kills.

the tank repair would be ignored, and at the same time, why people should bother when they have tool boxes on their own tanks.

and smokes, markers can already be placed for friendly planes. it’s up to them if bomb them, or not.

and at the time that the smokes remain, the infantry can easely avoid it as the planes can be somewhere else as well.

but the wooden tower, the wooden stairs, and the little bunker are usefull and can be used in many occasions.

cheers.

Stairs/ladders and trenches/foxholes. All with very limited counts.

The rest, I disagree with.

Mortar: No. We dont need more explosive spam

More AA Guns: Yes. Especially for Normandy and D-Day.

Buildings (bunkers and towers): No. Would proparly eat too much frames, you would waste too much time finding a buildiable spot for them and towers are useless. Nets would be interesting though.

Small trenches and holes: Yes.

Tank Station: No. Just give us tank ammo station for Invasion.

Ammo Stations: Meh. Give them to SL and thats it.

Stairs and ladders: Yes.
