this discussion is absolute current in the fact AI kill people real nice in close range, but that feature is relative,
but… That must depends the class and the weapon the are using.
Trooper whit Bolt action rifle: Middle and long range (Should win most engagements in those fights)
Assaulter whit SMG: (will win mostly engagements in close range unless against another assaulter)
Snipe: Long to very Long range (Unless they are carrying Semi auto)

You got the point Players and DEV,s its necessary to AI have a range where they are effective, that would be a GREAT ADVANCEMENT in the game.
I am complete at favor that AI give some challenge to players, if you troops are practice targets it would be better to make they stay locked in a room and pick up one soldier at time, (whit actual happens and go very well inside the game)
this is programmed that way… i have noticed different AI behavior depending on the distance.
AI likes to kill AI special soldiers in my team on long ranges (AT soldier, radio soldier, engineer). player controlled soldier will never get hit by bot on long ranges
if you aim at AI (regardless of distance) he will turn in your direction. i cant reproduce this every time, but i have seen bots turning 90° towards me when i was just aiming at them with sniper (without firing a shot) from 100+ meters.
if you are close to AI and he has his back turned against you, when you aim at him he will turn around and kill you (needs to be relatively close)
i mark and my bots look at stars… it is so nice when i die, switch to next bot and i need 1-2 seconds to reorientate myself cause he was looking in some random direction.
they are effective, just not against player controlled soldiers. bots will kill other bots regardless of distance, but will only kill human players in close range…
wish AI would be a bit stronger, just so that my AI actually contributes in fighting the enemy, instead of being wiped in 1 second by a decent player with an auto gun.
