Nerf the anti-personnel mines

how many times did an average enlisted player wander into a control point, only to find every passageway, every doorway, every window be mined with a anti personnel mine? the answer is countless times.

make it so that the anti personnel mines can be placed only on soft surface such as dirt and grass, and not on wood, metal, or concrete/rock surfaces.

the german S-mine was intended to be buried in the ground, obviously this would be too tedious to implement, so the best case scenario is to add a APM arming animation along with the current mine dropping animation

the american M2 mine was intended to be used the same way, buried in the ground and pressure activated

the soviet APM, the POMZ, it was meant to be planted the same way, into the soil

the issues start to appear with mines such as vaudagna b4, which is a italian anti-personnel mine. the B4 lacks the propellant charge underneath, so it was generally fixed to a tree or a post rather than being buried in the ground.

In the minute it takes for a squad to deploy the mines on all his squad members, you could have thrown multiple explosives into the objective to safely detonate any mines.

If it’s a trend with an enemy player or their team, nobody is stopping you from using your own explosives to blow them up before they start chewing through your squad.

Sounds good to me - better than just making less powerful - keep them outside! I’ve even wondered if making them have friendly fire - like with grenades though, only for the squad who placed them.

This would keep them useful but make them less frequent and annoying.

FF was turned off pretty early in the squad game to stop “the special ppl” griefing, and from what I recall they left it in lone fighters mode but it was causing issues. Having never played it I don’t ultimately know whether it was retained or how effective it might have been for the relative immersion of that mode.

So that’s why mines and arty are active vs enemy only, and in relation to being able to see your own team’s mines could be argued as an abstraction of the myriad of ways each side marked their minefields on their own maps during WWII.

Friendly fire is still active for your own artillery - it won’t kill your team, but it will kill you and your squad. Same with grenades - I just think AP mines could be the same. It wouldn’t enable griefing.

I get your point - but with AP hidden just behind each doorway, it would take a lot of grenades to clear - and with AIs tendancy to wander, even when I’ve been sat capping from a safe spot, I’ve seen my AI just wandering around the objective.

I"m not sure why you’d want to kill yourself with your own mines ? I kind of get the grenade thing, because they have allowed ppl to cook grenades. But I don’t recall killing myself with my own arty, not to say its not possible, I’ve just never done it. Similarly with the new Stalingrad esque bombing mission - I’ve never killed myself with it, but I’ve been in its AOE plenty of times.

I’d argue that outside of dedicated grenade builds, most throwables in a soldier’s inventory, and by extension, their squad, are usually not thrown before they expire.

as mine user, I agree with nerf, but in different manner, make it be friendly fire too could be a good change for force use your brain and not make drop in the objetive and ta da, minefield done,no, we need make things work

Another weak player who calls out for the limitation of better players. This is the third thread I’ve seen calling for mines to be changed this year. I also face mines, yes, it makes me angry, but emotions are part of the game. If you’re looking for a relaxing game to play after work, look elsewhere. Moderators please lock this thread.

I hope that the days when everything was nerfed are over.

Some nerf is needed, if at least time to plant.

You can just toss those mines around mid sprinting.

No nerf needed. That mine will kill one of your soldiers. If it were to be historically accurate, she would kill everyone. Air missiles, aerial bombs, mortars, bombing raids, artillery, etc. have already been nerfed. When everything is nerfed then the game becomes boring and turns into just another call of duty clone. No nerfs ever again.

Do you throw it in the middle of the sprint somewhere in the forest with what effect? Someone has to step on that mine. Each soldier can only have one. Mines require skill. And they are already weak. Even if you mine the rally point, it won’t kill everyone. And you want to give them another nerf? For some people, something is probably only balanced if it doesn’t do anything to them.

Nerfing AT mines would be good on paper but since your suggestion is saying that they should only be placeable (or more like burried) inside the ground are going to turn Berlin Stalingrad and Moscow into unplayable mess where you won’t be able to protect your Rally Points or even put a single mine near objective. You know why? Because everything is filled with concrete at Berlin+Stalingrad, and in Moscow is full of wooden structures so no mines for you either.

Better nerf would be a limit to 2-3 and 1-2sec to plant a single mine. Or let us sprint around the exploding mine and not be killed but be left with 10% of hp. Implementing real bouncing betties so we could prone and not get killed is too hard for the DF so i won’t even bother suggesting that.

If you want to use them effectively, you have to know where to put them. Every player who is not brain dead has a mine waiting at the door. or under windows. And even if you place them correctly, no one has to step on them anyway. Have you ever played with it? Are you one of those players who thinks “I see how it kills someone, it must be strong”. But you don’t see failed attempts anymore.

Mines are indeed ridiculous atm.

But I wouldn’t restrict the places they can be.

Only thing I’d do, is implement an animation for mine placing. About 5 seconds.

A bit like for leaning: devs made animation a tad bit slower and it works well.

I’d also restrict cunt moves of mining enemy rally points.

If a soldier had 10 percent hp left, then the whole mines lose their meaning. You go after a mine and as a penalty for a mistake one of your soldiers will have 10 percent hp. This is not balanced. If it has to be like this, then let the radius of the explosion be much larger.

Make them concussed for 3-5secs (weapon shaking and be less accurate, can’t use ironsights) and unable to sprint for us much.
