Needed Updates

I didn’t wanna prematurely start this thread to just complain but this is ridiculous.

Squad AI fucking sucks and Invasion Game Modes for Normandy are terrible. I’m more than happy to explain myself if anyone wants to have a conversation but I don’t give a fuck about obeying any TOS at this point since I’m so goddamn frustrated. Cheers.

yeah chief, I’m gonna need you to elaborate on that one

I feel like the Invasion maps we have for Normandy are trash, except maybe for Axis defending Ruins of Vaux.

D-Day has way too many backdoors and some of them are off-limits and hard to reach from Axis bases. A lot of these so called Axis defenses are actually aimed at Axis control points which basically makes Axis the attacking team and not the other way around and Allies have an insane amount of vantage points down on Axis control points, giving them a huge LOS advantage. I don’t think I’ve tried Allies-side D-Day but I know it can be terrible to be stomped there too, especially when you’re grounded on the first control point.

There was this other Invasion map besides Vaux/D-Day where the Axis was attacking(Something based around The Colleville Farm, I think?), and Axis as the attacking team there was just at a huge disadvantage because the first point was typically a nice house everyone could bunch in. I think it’s easier for an Allied Engineer to defend at that first control point than it is for an Axis Engineer to defend the first control point of D-Day because their sandbags and barbaras aren’t exposed to enemy grenades and weapons fire. Then, the second house is isolated from the rest of the village around the first point and just by itself in the middle of a wide open space.

Vaux as Invasion is still difficult and the first two checkpoints kind of have oddball LOS lanes that I don’t like but the Swamps of Reviers segment for the last two checkpoints is basically fucking terrible. They’re both susceptible to artillery spam too, which makes them hard to defend. Squad AI makes sardine-packing a squad underground to avoid the arties practically impossible.

I’m not gonna complain about any one thing but it’s how the whole thing comes together that needed a fuckton of work, honestly. I was already compiling my ideas about the whole affair but yeah… Needed to vent.

because they are, i mostly play on the allied side and sometimes the axis and i can tell you that they aren’t fun and the invasion that has the axis with limited tickets is sometimes i never see. it’s also not fun not being able to cap the first point on d-day because the axis brought an airplane

… Airplanes… As if I needed one more reason to boycott… I’ve seen good airplane bombs lobbed on Allies from Axis on D-Day and it ends up in half the team being wiped off the board at the start of the round. Otherwise, ground combat fucking SUCKS! Dude… I feel undervalued having to rely on planes to win. I can’t even pilot them!

I do agree on this one, the defenses are built to flank the enemy that is invading, but instead they are used the other way around. I’d love for the German spawn to become two and move them closer to the two hills on each side. At the same time however, give the US something to breach the first objective in return. Most games currently either end on the very first objective or the US steam rolls all they way without stopping. Would be nice to buff US early, nerf them later on.

I’d say that is just your personal bad experience. It’s one of my most favorite maps and I’ve had both games where we steam rolled as Germans and games where we lost on various objectives along the way. The fist objective is one of the easier once imo, the second one would be the hardest in my book. (US spawn inside a forest, they get many bush lines as a cover, a solid house objective, and Germans have to cross a field with no cover to get there)

That’s a problem of artillery spam and this spam works on any objective and should be dealt with, unrelated to any maps or gamemodes. I was of similar opinion regarding the last two objectives but now that I know the map better, I really enjoy the whole map.

I’ve had experiences where an Engineer can barricade the garage at the first control point while the rest of his team guarded the back door, making ganking a lot harder and taking up a lot of my team’s resources… We’ve barely ever had enclosed spaces that are susceptible to an Engineer’s presence on the Axis side except for maybe D-Day P1.

Ditto, I figure there’s an oppertunity cost to having the specialized artillery regiment on one’s loadout.

I mean a single explosion pack thrown into the garage can melt all of the barricades. Also have experienced people going from the left side through windows or just pushing through the right side entrance with sheer fire power. I like to get crafty with attacking objectives so I don’t really have an issue here, if you do that’s fine. I believe the devs are working on a “choose a gamemode” system (maybe even choose a map) so that could help a lot.

I KNEW IT! I had a feeling they would go the COD style choose your gamemode playlist where they were going to let you pick what kind of maps to play!

Well anyways, I both have and don’t have a problem with getting crafty with objectives, it’s just that on Invasion it’s THE ONE objective and the options aren’t often necessarily player-friendly so I would think that needs balancing.

The first objective on the map that we are talking about is the perfect case in point. Yes, you’re right! Dynamite can blow shit up and can get rid of Engineer stuff easily, but for that garage you only have a few LOS angles at which you can throw the dynamite in as Axis and if Allies have those LOS lanes locked down you can’t really throw the stick in to clear, which eliminates the garage as an entry for the first control point. Going in through the front door isn’t an option either because sometimes there’s infantry or even tanks behind the sandbags down the street that ambush you the minute they see you… And then there’s the back door. I’d have to experiment on brute force but my squads are shaping up!
