Naming of weapons

I want to ask to adjust the names of weapons. It will be good to have historical names for everything, but i am asking at least to bring weapons to the same level of standardization. Some examples:

1. Johnson weapons

Other US weapons (if not taking into account prototypes or standardization like M1/M2/M3/etc) usually named like M[YEAR] + Name + optionally type (like rifle). According to this system, these weapons should be named like:
M1941 Johnson Rifle
M1941 Johnson LMG

2. Springfield family
Same issue, but more weapons affected. Some versions named “Springfield M1903…” and others named “M1903 Springfield…”.

Designation should be standartsized and moved in the beginning, so it will be like:
M1893 Mannlicher Rifle
M1895 Mannlicher Rifle

Also will be good to have additions like SMG, LMG, Rifle and etc. in the weapon name, depends on weapon type, and standartsize postscript about magtypes (because currently there are 5 or even more vesrions of it).

In case it’s very-very low priority, give at least an option to modify names with mods, so i can make it on my own

Was the Johnson ever standardized and put into production? I guess it would have to have been since DF has an M designation to put on it. We need more prototypes and T designs in the TT

Yes The Johnson Rifle was used by Paramarines as they did not had many Garand in 1941 and the US were able to reuse Johnson Rifle that were ordered by the Ductch. The LMG was adopted by the US/Canadian Devil’s Brigade when deployed to Italy.

We could also put the manufacturer in it’s details and stats. Some of the descriptions in the game are lacking in proper explanation.

Yeap, placeholders instead of description should be removed for sure. If capability to modify text will be added, these issues also can be adressed by localization mods

This lack of care/attention to detail is really annoying.

38 has hyphen, 39 doesn’t.

In the name “Bf” is without full stop, in description with full stop.

Ju 188 is without hyphen, Ju-88 is with hyphen.

“Thompson 50” looks like an actual weapon name.

KV-1 sometimes becomes Kv-1.

AVS 36 is without hyphen, AVT-40 is with hyphen.

"STZ"modification

Also can any English speaker guess what “in a spike” means? lol
It’s a direct calque from Russian, has been in the game since Stalingrad was added, and they don’t seem to care that it doesn’t make sense in English.

I hope you do understand that PP means SMG or a gun that shoots pistol rounds so adding SMG to all of them was just kinda of not needed maybe adding the name of the creator in parenthesis but not changing for example PPK-42 to Kalashnikov SMG it is just outright weird (Like how chai tea is weird to me since chai lit. means tea) but I wouldn’t mind PPK-42(Kalashnikov) and also this kinda of naming will cause some confusion in future like lets say we change PPK-41 to Korovin SMG then what about PPK-30 model 1 and 2 will they be called Korovin SMG,too.

Anyhow other than I agree with hyphens on Soviet SMGs also I can see others getting implanted. GOOD JOB

Well, i was following these goals:

1. Keep the rule to add weapon type in the end of the name (as i offering in the end of original post). It should help to understand what weapon type you dealing with.
2. Separate adopted from non-adotped/prototype.
3. Keep some consistency among non-adotped/prototype SMG

I am aware what PP stands for пистолет-пулемет, but what if i am not weapon guy and don’t speak Russian? This is the simpliest way to mark what are you using, or what was used against you. Same goes for Germans. StG (Sturmgewehr) 44 Assault Rifle is sounds weird, as well as MP (maschinenpistole) 40 SMG, but we are speaking about English localization. Not everybody speaks German/Russian, so better to give some understadable mark for each weapon.

Speaking about Korovin prototypes. We always can add M[YEAR] in the beginning, in that case we will have:
M1941 Korovin SMG (currently PPK-41)
M1940 Shpitalniy SMG (currently PP Shpitalniy 1940)
M1944 Dolganov SMG (currently PPD 1944)
M1942 Kalashnikov SMG (currently PPK-42)

And as a bonus:
M1930/1 Korovin SMG
M1930/2 Korovin SMG

Instead of creating a new topic,

Some more inconsistencies that make my OCD explode:

• When you purchase a soldier the perk points order is foot–hand–heart, but everywhere else it’s foot–heard–hand

• In squads list it says “assault pilot” but in squad and soldier description it’s “attacker pilot”. I assume that’s another Russian to English translation error since the words “assault” and “attack” basically have the same translation in Russian.

• Fedorov in the weapon name (correct), Federov in the description (incorrect)
