The Na-To open top Tank Destroyer as it is presented, sits at BR3 and rests quite far along the Tech Tree for Japan.
It features a crew of 6, a 75mm Lightweight Type I Model II Cannon with 40 rounds total, a max speed of 40km/h (Not that you’d ever reach it lol), a maximum of 12mm of armour and 140hp at almost 14 tons and it features no machine gun.

Being the 8th tank you unlock and nearing the end of Tier 4 research in the Japanese tech tree, one might assume the tank to perform decently well in its role as a Tank Destroyer. Yes, it only has 7 HE shells for dealing with infantry but! It has 17 APHE round and 16 APCR rounds! Something not seen elsewhere in Japan. So surely it must perform well at taking out tanks to make up for the lack of anti infantry capabilities right?!
WRONG! Unfortunately you’ll be left disappointed and more often than not quite dead in practice. Yes it can deal with the Sherman II & M4A1 reasonably well, usually having no problems penetrating their armour with just the APHE. but that’s about the only thing positive you can say about it.
Against the other tanks it’ll expect to come up against of the same BR like the M4A2, M4A3 (105), it’s already having problems getting through the front plate on the hull and even some issues on the turret even with APCR, though the cheeks are your best bet. Any BR up from 3 it’ll be seal clubbed unlike anything else.
At least the American M10 GMC has the courtesy of being nimble and actually having a small amount of armour, especially compared to the Na-To. Pretty much anything other than the Na-To is faster, more versatile and deadlier.
So it doesn’t perform well as a Tank Destroyer. So surely those 7 HE shells pack a punch at the very least?
WRONG The HE shells seem to have absolutely bugger all explosive filler, and good luck with no machine gun! Or turret to turn and shoot anywhere outside of a small cone of vision!
The Ho-I at BR 2 outclasses this tank in every way; HEAT that performs just as well if not better, plus actual armour and plenty of Anti Infantry capabilities.
To truly send home just how sad of a Tank the Na-To is, I will provide both image and video examples of how much of a meme it truly is, from bad to worse to so sad it’s hilarious.
The Na-To tank is one of, if not the most exposed tank crew in the entire game maybe minus a couple vehicles, namely those that are literally trucks. 3 out of the 6 total crew members are basically completely useless, and 5 out of the 6 are completely exposed to most angles.
Worst of all the gunner and commander have their heads poking over the top of the main gun, of which allows any infantryman to completely nullify the Na-To like it’s nothing.
Just look at how exposed those poor souls are
Additionally, the image at the very top of this suggestion shows just how exposed they are from a side angle, all you’d need is a few degrees to the left or right to kill almost the entire crew with any gun, let alone another tank!
And it gets worse when you realise that both on the left and right cheek of the front chassis, it is directly in line with massive ammo racks that even the most meager of cannons can pen and detonate…
But worst of all.
Even a Boys-AT rifle can lolpen the Na-To from over a 100 metres…
In my time playing and maining Japan from when I first started and up till now. I believe I have only ever seen the Na-To used 3 times by players other than myself.
I have played 1888 games as Japan
The only other time I have seen it used, is when the AI deploy in a tank during higher tier battles. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen them kill an enemy tanks and barely any infantry at all.
I’ve used this tank as a fun challenge at times, but it truly is nothing more than a meme, this tank lacks effectiveness that some BR1 tanks can dish out, let alone BR3. There’s no reason to ever bring the Na-To, everything in its class is simply better in every possible way.
Please, give this little guy some love and drop them to BR2 at least. I think he could actually have some fun against some slightly more squishy tanks and it’d still be just as vulnerable.
Give the Na-To a home in BR 2.
And let me know your thoughts about the Na-To.
With much love.
