Played Enlisted for awhile just had a think about things that I would like to see. In no particular order here are my ideas.
1. Heavy Mortars
Now I know a lot of people won’t like this idea, but hear me out. As it stands, few people really use mortars, but I thought an idea could be the option to allow the engineer in the mortar squad to build a stationary ‘mortar pit’. The mortar will be a heavy one (so not 51mm or 88mm). For example, the M2 4.2-inch mortar for Allies (or alternatively Stokes 4-inch mortar), the 10 cm Nebelwerfer 35 for Axis, the 107mm M1938 for USSR and perhaps the Type 96/97 for Japan. While the latter is larger caliber that the other three… Japan is already without a larger mortar in their higher BR. The trade off here will be, firstly, you’re stationary so cannot reposition, your fire rate will be lower and you will be able to be marked. In return, you get a bigger boom and perhaps be able to counter grey zone camping tanks that nobody seems to want to kill.
2. Alternative Engineer Build Options
The ability for an engineer to build different shape/size sandbags or the ability to build ‘layered’ defenses could be fun. As it stands, you can build the basic sandbag wall, but being able to build ones like the maps have (i.e, with gun slits in etc) would be nice as well.
3. Pontoon Bridges
An engineer squad only option. As many people are probably aware, a lot of maps get funneled towards bridges or fords in order to get to the objective. Flanking does not really happen because people don’t want to swim or wade and not everybody has or uses paratroops. Therefore I suggest the ability to build pontoon bridges for engineers. When an engineer appears next to a river and selects the bridge option it ‘auto locks’ to the other side, with the distance altering the resource cost to build it. This means you can’t build super long bridges but it does mean you can build some to help people get across quicker in different positions. They can obviously be destroyed and so on.
4. Map buildings
This idea is essentially buildings on a map that can be built (and destroyed) but require multiple squads to build rapidly. Essentially buildings that give some sort of advantage if the team works to build it together. Ideas are radar stations (which will mark enemy aircraft on your map), heavy AA to deal with bombers (I mean the models are already in the game), perhaps ammo dumps or artillery that help reduce cool downs on calling in artillery by 15 seconds or something. Obviously one would get points for destroying it and once it is destroyed it can’t be rebuilt, this would prevent it being too powerful, but it would require concentrated attacks to destroy (a single 500kg from a German aircraft shouldn’t destroy it)
5. Bomber Escort Points
When somebody calls in a bombing run and you go up into an aircraft to escort them to make sure they actually get to the target in one piece, I think you should be awarded points for doing it. As it stands, there is no real reason to go up and defend the bombers outside of maybe intercepting an opponent trying to get some points. Unless you called the bombing run in, you’d just be helping your teammate get more points. Therefore a ticking point for being within a certain distance of the bombers would be nice. Additionally, if you take down an enemy aircraft in the zone, you get additional points for protecting the bombers. This will encourage people to actually protect them instead of just shrugging and going on their own bombing run.
6. Vehicle Kill Assist Stat
It is incredibly annoying when you hit a tank six times with an AT weapon, two explosive packs and you kill 5-6 crew but somebody comes along and hits it with something and gets the kill because ‘they hit it last’. An assist doesn’t really compensate, but if it was a vehicle assist kill, it should be displayed because it shows that you actually tried to take out enemy vehicles, instead of Mr Last Hit getting the vehicle kill. Same issue when you hit an aircraft with 10+ 20mm (or higher) shots and you leave it to go do something else and a guy on the ground sprays their SMG as it crashes and gets the kill. Either define the kill on who did the most damage (difficult, I assume) or give the vehicle kill assist stat so it does look like you were helping and not being screwed over.
7. Different nation match ups
In 1945, the USSR went to war with Japan. While it might be ahistorical to have low BR sides meet up, I think it would be nice if we could get USSR and Japan fighting each other. We’re already into this situation with the weapons Japan has, so being able to fight USSR instead of Allies and USSR being able to fight Japan instead of Germany would make everything a bit different.
Every other suggestion I have is basically stuff that has already been said, a balance issue or possible bug. Just to list them off quickly.
- Japan needs better AT weapons (Type 4 with 90mm round, Type 97 AT rifle with shaped round)
- Japan needs a BR1-2 fighter aircraft that does NOT spawn on a carrier. You cannot get up to prevent Allies bombing you in time. Additionally, improve the options for higher tier attacker aircraft. 500kg No.2 is useless due to the 80kg or so HE.
- Various premium squads such as Ki-61-I Hei have soldiers that do not have max stats, making them worse than generic. Additionally, soldiers in the Ka-Chi tank cannot unlock Tier 3 perks because they do not have enough skill points to do so, making them unable to get improved reloading or aiming, making a pretty weak tank weaker. Additionally, premium/event APC drivers cannot max out the driving perks fully due to lack of skill points, yet generics can. If you’re paying for these things, you’d like to be able to get some benefit from them over generics.
- AT mines cannot be set off by AP mines any more. This used to be a fun thing for me to do where I’d put an AT mine next to an AP mine next to an APC. A rare event, but fun. Now it’s not possible. Additionally, AT mines are now resistant to even fired rounds from guns. I am not entirely sure why this was changed. AP mines used to be great, OK I can understand weakening them, but for them not to set off AT mines sucks. I know it was probably done to avoid what I just mentioned but if you’re paying for and equipping an AT mine and AP mine just to do this, it shouldn’t be stopped.
- If I make a full BR2 squad, I don’t really want to play BR3. I avoid BR3+ because you come across rifle grenades in that rank. I would like the option to only play at BR2. I can understand facing them if I made my squad BR3 or higher, but at BR2, being forced to play versus 105mm and rifle grenades as Japan sucks. A minor issue, probably just my jealously whenever I have played BR3 I’ve always faced BR4 or BR5, never BR2.
Probably forgotten stuff, but that’s just an idea. Suggesting vehicles or weapons is kinda pointless as everybody can do it better than I can.
