My Review after 3 days (including suggestions)

So to be helpful since the game is in devolopement here’s my impression / review after 3 days :

I’ve been playing the Invasion of Normandy campaign only on the Axis side, this game came to my attention while I was looking for gameplay footage for Hell Let Lose to see if it was worth buying. This was recommended as something similiar. Since it was free might as well go play myself.

What I expected

So you understand my point of view, I was expect a FPS shootergame along the lines of Hell Let Lose only with a element added from a older Xbox game I can’t quite remember the game from, where you also controlled a squad and not just 1 soldier, Hill 66 or something ? and some type of Battlefield 1942 elements.

Getting started

Getting started with the toturial, this was rather basic. It didn’t cover aircraft at all so i’m still struggling to fly a plane since I haven’t had a proper chance to practice without being shot at and having to carry my weight in a battle. It also did not cover engineering construction.

First impression of progression screen

Not to bad, was easy enough to understand where to do what. Expect nothing explain exactly what it did or required to do that. How to get more granades ? no idea. What does a backpack do ? No idea! What exactly can tools do ? does it help increase construction speed ? no idea ! Nothing really has a tooltip, only a name it seems.

My only gripe here is the matchmaker, I cannot select that I do not wish to play conquest and only invasion.

Store elements

Pretty much same issue as the soldier / progression interface, lacks any type of detailed information although there is the I button with a bit more information, but it’s bare minium.

Especially a short description and about specialist soldiers and what exactly they do is missing. I can guess for a good part and when I finally unlock the actual squad I know, but until then, mistery what i’m working towards! I was wondering when I was gonna get ranged anti-tank weapon, now I know since I unlocked the bomber!

Battles

  • Battles seem nice enough, color is a bit bright, but might just be my taste.
  • FPS seems stable enough.
  • Guns sound really good
  • Combat does seem very much rushed, I think this can be a combination of spawns being reletaively close to objectives (not considering forward constructed spawns) and that spawn intervaults are low at 10 seconds and capping is relatively faster. In fact I sometimes when defending I cannot even leave the spawn on objective point fast enough before the enemy is already there. This constant pressure also downplays engineering construction, you barely ever have time for it.
  • While I do not mind the destructive power of planes, my only real counter to it is to build a engineering flak, which takes several seconds, is exposed to sniper fire and takes a whole clip to down a plane. I would really like to see flak build faster, take less hits to down a plane. I do not mind the ability of the enemy to defend their planes, but at least make flak a real threat for planes.
  • The Anti-Tank gun on infantry seem completely random when they want to pen regardless of exploiting weakspots in armor.
  • Pak gun is awesome, please add the scope it should have
  • The AI really needs to be able to find cover more expertly, it can other make a good team lose due to it just wasting tickets.
  • Teams seem sometimes rather unbalanced in terms of expierence / level, a good 1/4th of my games seem to be a rolfstomp for either my side or the other.

Progression in general

How can I put this… Horrible after level 3. I’ve played a decent amount of F2P games, but this one… I’ve played a good 10+ matches now with my new heavy infantry AT squad, only lvl 4 and i’m not the best, but i’m usually around 4/5th on my team, with at least 1 or 2 tank kills and a few dozen infantry. The only thing that seems to be unlocking at a decent rate is the perks for individual soldiers, everything else is just horrible.

Also the ratio of equipment cards you get to soldiers / weapons is a bit wonky.

My final verdict

Fun enough game, i’ll be playing it off and on I suppose. If I ever get a gift card I might spend some money on it. But I wouldn’t be tempted to invest otherwise at this point. If my friends would specifically ask me if I knew any decent WW2 shooters I might mention this game, nothing to lose here by playing.

Yep it’s really frustrating

You’re doing a sneaky move while your squad is running in middle of enemies push.

the only thing i can say about progression is that it actively rewards good players, you get 1.5 multiplier for getting battle hero and i believe 1.3 multiplier for being first place no matter if you win or lose, which is how i’m able to earn 6k+ xp per battle despite being completely f2p

you can change to practice mode Above the “Start” key on the main menu.

and fly your plane all you want and test it out, if you die, you can always restart the mode and fly back into it.

remember to use flaps , and throtle your speed with mouse wheel befor turning or befor a dive and you ill be fine.)

here (read on the low right corner)
for ex:

Tools are only used to repair yours or friendly tanks/planes .

You can always press the “info” icon on the tool image, and get the info on the corner.
its basic info, but its enough info to explain what the tool does.

hit logistics (main menu - top) and press “Equipment delivery”

you can get them here, they trade for bronze orders you get after every game, i recomend you to level untill you get TNT packs, they do have the same kill potential as normal grenades, but they also destroy enemy tanks / fortifications.

i advice you play a litle more as free to play player, if you enjoy the game, premium time its almost mandatory if you want to grind.

as bronze orders, its always related how you perform ingame, with premium time i always get 5 - 8 bronze orders for soldiers and 5-8 for weapons every game.
you have to perform good , and you ill recieve all you need.

premium time, its something i recomend. it does ease the grind time alot, BUT, you do have to put effort in doing good/winning batles. be second place in your team / loosing games. ill not make it faster.

as a player that already compleated multiple campaigns, i can tell you that you ill get way too many orders for what you ill trully need. the gear, weapons, soldiers, will come naturaly as you play the game more and more, and better.

and rememeber, atleast have fun. the grind/levels comes after with time.

easy grind?
-Get premium
-you need to put an extra effort if you want to grind.
-Kill as much as you can
-Win the batle (extra x1.5 xp at the end of the batle)

  • perform the best with your squad, if you do have the best performance from your team on some squads you can get up to 1.4x extra xp over your base xp, and it does accomulate with 1.5 x win xp)
  • a kill defending an objective, inside it, or near it, are worth more xp, dont camp. push the objectives and play around them.
  • playing inside a tank close to an objective gives the most xp rates so far, every kill you get inside a tank , it does give 1 extra assist per active squad members inside your tank, so dont save the mg ammo, or HE ammo. kill - get xp.
  • camping, and playing passive, will get you a hard time grinding. be agressive, dont care if you die, you ill spawn again and lear with it. take risks , they will payoff with better xp over time with better actions from your side.

i always get from 20k to 50k xp per match with premium, i can easly compleate a campaign in a few days of gameplay time. premium time, its worth every single cent, as long as you play good with it.

so again, forget the grind for now, focus on - Do i like this game? Do i see my self playing it tomorow? i m getting better at it and doing better and better xp after every match? DO I HAVE FUN playing it? (the most important one)
if so, consider investing atleast on premium and then focus on the grind. you ill have a better understanding how easy the grind is , when you realise what to do to get the most xp per time and still have lots of fun (this is relative, i know, i have fun dominating the matches, others can have fun roleplaying as a sniper on a church tower getting 100xp per match)

you also get multipliers from being first place and battle heroes with my true average amount of xp earning being around 10k after all the modifiers

Oh, I thought the xp multiplier is 1.3x for one battle hero, 1.4x for 2, 1.5x for 3or above. Isn’t it?

honestly i’m not too sure how it exactly works

This here. for f2p, my issue was never getting XP or orders. The main reason I ever got premium was for the extra squad slots and faster academy, which once I have my main squads set, I wont really need anymore.

+1 to the OP for pretty much nailing every single aspect of the new player experience.

Probably my BIGGEST dislike of this game. Normandy looks like some tropical paradise and it really takers away from the immersion.

The countryside is indeed quite saturated, but on the other hand it’s supposed to be June or so, that’s how the landscape would look like in sunny days regardless of the kind of human activity going on.

Personally, since Ruins of Vaux and Swamps of Reviers are quite dull, I don’t mind other areas being more vivid.

Kudos to you for this post. Most of us here tend to forget how it was when we started because we learnt a while ago. Your review should be precious information for the devs, as it is from a new player perspective. As such they can learn from this how to transform new players into regular ones.

Good job, my good sir.

From a game that did extensive research on the actual conditions surrounding D-Day, I think Brothers in Arms nailed the atmosphere better. From weather reports I looked up, the weather was overcast and mid-60s fahrenheit even in June

Thank you for the effort dear sir, but most of these questions I already asked individually in an other post and where answered, I was pointing out I had to ask them and the game itself didn’t provide enough or quick enough information for me to figure it out other wise.

Although I do appreciate the tips for maximizing the Exp.

No worrys.

The forum can answer questions at all times.
Hopefully some one will start a enlisted wiki where everyone can add info into it so we all get the best answers on time.

Actually this guy @sfh0525 has already build up a Chinese wiki for this game. I have used his wiki for a sometimes after OBT. Enlisted从军WIKI_BWIKI_哔哩哔哩 And he tould me he was considered to translated it to a fandom wiki into a English one.
But then he saw something horrible about this game and tried to tell us in this forum, but got banned. And he stopped playing this game and left the wiki without updates.

I am a terrible player. But my XP rate improved immensely when I started running in lone fighter and started pushing objectives instead of playing tactically.

My advice for new players?

Learn to be ok with dying…a lot. Instead, keep pushing at the objective or objectives until you take it, then move on to the next one…do not camp unless you know it is a high traffic position.

Level your squad first, then your weapons. Leave individual soldier leveling through the academy for last. Try to use weapons that are at least level 3, prefer max level for best performance.

Explosive pack is best in almost all situations.

Fully leveled single shot rifles tend to get better hit rates with your squad bots.

Keep your squad bots back from your push, use X to make them camp in a protected spot so when you die you have your next soldier ready.

Crouch walk is almost silent. Great way to sneak up on players/objectives.

Use enemy weapons to confuse the enemy. Good players know the sound of their weapons, and you can fool them sometimes into thinking your a friendly if surrounded by the enemies team members on the map. Enemy weapons can often be picked up as a supplemental weapon instead of a replacement for your main weapon.

I found that matching the proper backpack type to soldier is important. For me, soldiers with automatic weapons benefit most from adding a long range weapon like a rifle. General soldiers seem to do best with a grenade pack, snipers with an ammo pack. Open up a pistol slot for heavy weapon or engineers.

Tank crews should be outfitted like regular soldiers. You will leave the tank often, to take objectives or repair the tank and you need weaponry to fight. Close quarter weapons are usually sufficient.

Try to stick to the path not taken when moving to the objective. Avoid following fellow soldiers in a straight line to the point, as this path is usually camped.

Artillery strikes can be useful when taking objectives, even if they do not kill the enemy. They can dizzy them temporarily, making it next to impossible for them to fire on you for a few seconds after the barrage ends. This can happen even if they are inside buildings or bunkers.

Most of the time dropping to a crouch and taking aim at an enemy, even if they are shooting at you will give you the advantage. Do not panic fire, especially if you have an automatic weapon.

Semi automatic is a friend to lower level players, even for automatic weapons. If your weapon has that mode, it is better to control your fire at mid to long distance, giving you greater accuracy.

Just a few things I have learned to increase kill count. The most important lesson was to learn to be OK with death. Just keep pushing till you take the objective, and dont camp it when taken. Move on to the next.

soldier progress

sooner or later you’d get used to it but need a long time, even me reached lv 29 faster than understanding soldier and squad mechanic

you can put another class in another class

you can put several different class on assaulter squad like radioman, gunner, bomber, and enginner but engineer shall come first since it can build rally point. to unlock it first on assaulter upgrade window and to unlock certain class 2nd gun, sidearm, or backpack you need to unlock it in the personel of the squad class

super pro tip

  1. if you are broke F2P and want to buy stuff go play war thunder using the same email you use for enlisted, every year there are 2 event where you can farm GJN (gaijin coin, it’s the same as real money) first play the event get vehicle coupon then sell them on Trade.gaijin.net later when it possible (there’s timer) the event start today @ 11AM, detail War Thunder - Next-Gen MMO Combat Game for PC, Mac, Linux and PlayStation®4 | Play for free now! - News you’d get like ±70$, i bought 1 year premium and battlepass this way

  2. grinding lv2 squad (like gunner II,trooper II etc) isnt nesseary lv1 will do just fine except for engineer II, Tanker II, Fighter/Attacker Pilot II since it will give access to MG nest, Pz. IV H, Ju 188, and Fw 190

  3. academy works this way,
    :star:Trooper I + :star:Trooper I + :star:Trooper II = :star::star:Trooper II

NOPE, BEWARE, the soldier you get back is a RANDOM one out of the three, unless you pay or use an order to pick a specific one. In your example, you have 66,66% chance of getting back a tier 1 and 33,33% chance of getting a tier 2.
