Just tossing this out for informational purposes. I had been choosing the “Join Any Army” exclusively a couple days after it started, and played it up till this recent Burma map addition (and the other holiday events, etc) that caused a WHOLE lot of changes in the MM. (I’ve made a few posts about that.)
By my estimates, I’ve played about 600 games using that option, and had played exclusively BR2, on the NA servers. I started playing Enlisted in very late April of this year. Of the over 1200 games I’ve played, I’ve abandoned perhaps a dozen.
Here’s a screenshot where I started back in August (gotta love that Japanese win percentage, eh? Heh):
And here’s from today.
The one caveat on that is that when I first took the screenshot, it was a few days before I switched over to 100% “Join any Army” (so there’s some inflated American and Russian numbers there) and I stopped the random games on 12/20 /24. So, the last 29 or so games were straight up German on BR1 (as I’d never played BR1 and wanted to complete some of the various event objectives. )
Here’s a spreadsheet I made tallying up some of the totals. If you wonder why I just didn’t adjust the German totals down by 29 matches, I wanted the numbers on the spreadsheet to align with the screenshots.
So, not trying to give any opinion one way or another on the whole experiment. I was a bit flustered there for a bit with SO MANY Japanese matches, and yes, that’s why I finally abandoned that option - particularly since I finished that research tree.
Also, in just the last three weeks, you can see how many matches were overwhelmingly Japanese, until I switched.
Totals for ~the month of December for “Join Any Army”: Germany: 32, Japan: 50, US: 12, Soviets: 18.
I’m not superstar player, though I think I do okay, but if you look at the win totals - it’s an interesting point that I get dropped into Japanese games so often (including almost exclusively after Burma dropped) and yet the win-rate is so high.
In any case, I thought it might be interesting for some (who are like me) who are just interested in the information/numbers, and can take whatever stabs at the hows and whys you like.
Side note - my two bits of commentary: I would like to see a few changes in the “Join Any Army” - primarily, if you are finished a research tree, further give the ability to have the research gained that’s just wasted, be applied to some other tree. It’s obvious to everyone that Japan has less things to research - and this ONE THING is causing me to stop using this functionality, which was obviously helping Japanese matches get more human players.
It’s bad enough you get no choice in the army to play, and yes, you get rewarded with research for doing so - but, obviously, if you start feeling that half the time you’re playing it’s just being wasted then…what’s the point of playing a faction you don’t want to play?
Side note on the Japanese side: I actually don’t mind playing it - though yes, they need more maps, BADLY. I also don’t think they are weak with anything but their tanks (In low BR) but it’d still be nice to have more options on their research tree.
