It would be great to have Miles Per Hour for speed and Altitude in feet options for heads up text overlay for the US and English allies in the aircraft. I realize it’s there in the dash on the dials, but to have it in the heads up text would be great!
nah… they should standardize so US can learn SI units
We also need an option to automatically switch game to russian every time you play as soviets and to german/italian language when you play axis, so you could see accurate names and phrases.
Cuz y not.
Hahaha! Yeah sadly that’s not gonna happen. Plus since it’s historical that’s what units were used back then so it’s be cool to have the option to match it up.
That would be cool to have as an option, too! It would be cool to be able to switch them back and forth at will. I won’t understand a single said , but it’ll feel historically more accurate and we’d learn more. Especially if we can switch it back and forth. That’s the thing I like about this game. It’s bringing to life many of aspects my kids and I have studied in WWII. Love all the teachable moments it creates.
Well, my son corrected me. What I meant to say was it would be great to have options for knots in airspeed and feet for altitude. Those are standard measurements for most of not all airforces around the world and always has been. It would great if the heads up would match.
Nobody measures height in feets except two countries.
Noone.
You’ll be surprised but not everyone does things the same way as you do it in US.
Not every air force or commercial airlines use the Imperial system, why do you think the rest of the world changed to the Metric system. The only countries that use the Imperial System are USA, Burma, and Liberia. It was changed to keep everything more simple. So, “imperial are the standard measurements for most of not all airforces around the world and always has been” is a handful of horsesh*t and you need read more about other countries and stop thinking America is the main country in the world like all you Americans think.
What’s really funny is that England changed to metric as well, and they’re the ones who invented the archaic imperial system. (I might be incorrect, I’ll have to read on it)
In short, imperial system is garbage.
Who could be thinking.
Why can’t we measure map size in football fields?
Actually you are mostly incorrect, standard international aviation conventions use some strange hybridization of imperial and metric units, with airspeed indicators typically being in knots or miles per hour. So yes, imperial units are standard measurements for airspeed in the aviation industry as a whole, and therefore most air forces as a whole. And no, I’m not saying this because I’m an American, I’m a Canadian who spent quite a bit of time learning about the aviation industry as a whole. You might want to read a few books first.
and even when rest of the world was measuring things in feet they all had different sizes for feet.
sizes ranged from 0.25m to 0.36m for foot size depending on country. foot as measurement is stupid.
btw reason why people think napoleon is small cause they converted his height with imperial feet and not french (or was it metric feet)
Thank you for the feedback everyone. Regardless of anyone’s opinions or feelings about imperial or metric system, but in truth, while I respect them all, they aren’t relevant to my suggestion
The fact remains that it would be nice to be able to choose the units you’d like to see in your heads up text. When I was working in the game industry as a Senior/Tech/Lead Artist we did this often. It’s not a hard algorithm to add those conversions and relatively simple UI setup. It would just be nice to have Knots and Feet for altitude as an option. That’s all.
MPH was used before knots became the standard for airplanes. I know because I’ve flown a plane and seen planes with MPH on the airspeed indicator.
in modern day however british empire did use the imperial system, it’s called that because of the british empire, until 1965
Actually most countries do use feet in measuring altitude in aircraft save 3 or 4. The foot in altitude measurement is not the same as the foot in the imperial system. You can look it up. Regardless, my point is that so many use it that would be nice to have that option in the heads up display. It has nothing to do with whether anyone prefers a base 10 or base 12 system of math.
Actually the international civil aviation standards prove you wrong. Knots and feet are used throughout the world for aviation. Also English is the standard language in aviation, you must learn English to be a pilot.
wow so they wont even fix the reloading with striper clips and you think that they are gonna do this?
This is just a suggestion which is what this forum is for, is it not? They’ll do whatever the team prioritizes. It’s how game dev works. If they do, great. If they don’t, I know my life will be ok. It’s just a suggestion and as I understand it, they welcome these as we did when I was in game dev. I happen to know this tends to be a low impact change as there’s very little have at changes.
I’m sorry your issue doesn’t seem to be addressed, yet, but there may be a lot more issues behind resolving that. What they do isn’t up to us. Doesn’t mean it’s not in the works, but attempting to downplay someone’s suggestion because it doesn’t line up your personal concern isn’t constructive in any capacity and comes off poorly. I’m sure you’re a really cool person and probably not the vibe you meant to give off. It just sounds like you’re frustrated and I get that, but being supportive tends to have a better effect than being negative. Again, these are just suggestions not dictations.
Relax. Breath. Let’s just have fun. That’s what the game is for, yeah? I truly hope they address yours and my suggestions. If not, does it really matter?
For people who are using such traditional measurement units, this option would be great.
If it will be choosable option, I support it. (I can understand only metric system)
