My previous topic was about the MP 41 that a German medic was holding on one of the screenshots in the first Stalingrad devblog. Now, that the second devblog is out, I think we have a confirmation, or at least a hint, that the captured MP 717(r) and/or MP 41(r) are coming into the game. One of the sentences in that devblog says:
Both sides used any means they could to achieve victory, from trophy weapons to much more unusual methods.
So, the first captured weapon when it comes to Stalingrad is the PPSh-41, heavily used by the Germans. It comes in two main flavors:
- MP 717(r) - The original one, supplied with the German 7.93x25mm Mauser ammo (interchangeable with the Soviet 7.92x25mm Tokarev).
- MP 41(r) - Rechambered for the9x19mm Parabellum and with a magwell insert for MP 40 magazines. It would probably have a bit slower fire rate (maybe around 850 or 900 max rpm) and be a bit more controllable due to the 9x19 being weaker than the 7.62x25.

Honestly if these types of weapons are locked behind the full access, than that is good.

I mean, I feel like locking a drum mag variant would piss off every content creator and f2p player, but the 9x19 32 round mag variant, sure, why not.
And in general, my “candidates” for full access weapons, at least for Axis, are minor Axis’ weapons and vehicles, such as the:
- Orița M1941,
- ZK-383 (used by Bulgarians),
- Mannlicher M1895 (used by Bulgarians and Hungarians),
- MG 30 (used by Bulgarians),
- 41M Turán,
- IAR 81,
- FÉG 39M (Danuvia).
Although stuff like the FÉG 39M or the IAR 81 shouldn’t really be paywalled, because it not being unlockable would kinda be p2w.

2 sides having those would be a mess… both sides spraying away would look just silly. Give me a regular mp41 or a sexy mkb42 instead, but let Soviets have their trademark smgs.
If both use the same things, why would we even want to grind both? (Even at x8 xp speed)

I hope not. If there is a possibility that Axis will have a drum fed burp gun, it should be the captured PPSh-41, as they used it very extensively in Stalingrad. On the other hand, there was very little usage of the Suomi on the Eastern Front in general. Plus I think that the 9x19mm version wouldn’t break a game at all.

Bulgaria was not at Stalingrad heck they went at war with the USSR until the week before they joined the allies so they were

Maybe it’ll be part of that full access only level
Sorry, my bad. No ZK-383 and MG 30 I guess.
Why not? Zk was used by Germans as well, and MG 30 zas used by Hungarians as 31M Solothurn.

I really hope not and I play the Axis to the exclusion of the Allies. I’d much rather see other Axis nations’ weapons than just captured weapons. Because then the Allies will use captured weapons next and it’ll just take a lot of the factional flavor away. In my opinion, if you’re using enemy weaponry; it ought to be taken from their lifeless fingers.

I mean, technically Croatian troops on the eastern front used Thompson and Suomi SMGs, so that is the other option, but I think that the MP 41(r) - the 9x19mm variant with a magwell modified for MP 40 magazines would not break the game. First of all, it is unique as it isn’t just a captured PPSh-41, and it also wouldn’t break the game imo - imagine having the box magazine PPSh-41 from Berlin but with around 900 or 950 rpm.

It wouldn’t break the game, just make it more bland imo. Even if it was done, and it certainly was, I can’t find any info on how common it was for the belligerents on either side to use captured weapons. I’d prefer each side have it’s own unique strengths though and it’d be more accurate to use standard issue weaponry.
Even if a regiment or two in a given battle all used Thompsons/Ppsh-41s and Enfields/SVTs, that doesn’t even come close to other 80 odd regiments that made up the various divisions in Stalingrad for example. And that’s just the German forces. So you’d see them being used by half of the Axis players in short order when they’d have been, what, 1.2% of the firearms present?
Giving Axis the Thompson or the Suomi in Stalingrad is indeed a bad idea. I’ve already stated my opinion about the 9×19mm version possibly being added, but as for how common it was, I’d say quite common - one, there are a lot of photos of German soldiers armed with the PPSh-41, more than with any other captured weapon, and two, Germany went on its way to produce the conversion kit, which is quite unusual for them, so I’d say they were more common then people think they were.
I’d prefer some hard numbers over photos is the thing. Of course they’re going to take photos with captured weapons. Those photos could be shown to friends and family after the war to show everyone how cool Vati was. It’s a clout thing, hence why they’re referred to as trophy weapons. But how much effort went into supplying those weapons to keep them functional through the war is the key question in my mind.
The issuance of a conversion kit is a great point though. But I’ve not been able to find any indication about the numbers. And if it’s just guesswork, then to me, it should at most be a gold order weapon that you can have one of. Certainly not an unlockable that your whole squad can sport
I think that ship had sailed when you look at the number of weapons in this game that had production numbers in the low thousands or even hundreds. If darkflow think it fits they will put it in.
Having said that I think it would fit better as a premium squad, and I hope that trophy weapons are used as minimally in this game as possible.
