After the merge many players will play with 10 squads (4 basic + 2 premium + 3 Stalingrad + 1 for a premium squad) and choosing a squad will require scrolling up / down.
It would be simply not better to put that menu on a bottom of the screen ?

Umm… what’d be the point though?
You’d still have to have the bit on the left where you can view all soldiers, and select the specific soldier you want to deploy as, so you’d just be having two different UI sections for the same thing, instead of one.
You can pretty much fit the same number of unit icons on the side as you can the bottom, so it wouldn’t be able to show much more anyway, and you’d still have to implement some sort of scroll option for if there’s too many squads to fit.
Although, I will admit it does look nicer and cleaner at the bottom than on the side, moreso if the ugly black box didn’t go all the way down the left side and only went enough to show the 9 soldiers.
The point…
Soviets and Japanese squads have very similiar icons, so when scrolling a player occasionally can get confused and a pick a wrong squad.
Menu on the left is very big and very often blocks a drop-zone for a paratroopers.
