Now that it got DMG buff to 13.9 (equivalent to Type Hei Auto), it had no excuse of being a pseudo Assault Rifle anymore. Reasons
More DMG than most ARs (9.6)
More default ammo (25/100) than normal AR (30/90) despite having more DMG. Ain’t how many bullets a weapon has was calculated by its type and DMG?
AS-44 is already fulfilled its role as an AR in Assaulter class. It’s not a place where Federov Avtomat should be at after DMG buff.
I’m also Soviet main but this weapon is overkill, and now this DMG buff.
Suggestion
Move it to BR II as a Machinegunner class weapon which Soviet is still lacking (Only has Madsen at BR II) with stats adjusted accordingly.
OR
Move it to BR V as a Rifleman class weapon after AVT-40 in research tree. Federov Avtomat can fulfill the Rifleman class that’s currently lacking a 20 rounds-mag rifle.
Moving it to br 2 maybe to op because this doesnt have the speed nerf and its damage is high.
But as a Rifleman gun (select fire) it would be good it has lower damage but higher magazine capacity than avt 40 so it is an alternative. This would not make Soviets stronger cuz FG 42 II is better than both of them. Federov avtomat as a AR is to OP its an Mg or SF rifle on assaulter class.
Honestly I always thought the fedorov as its depicted in-game was a fantasy weapon 'cause its characteristics were way off from anything you could find even from just a quick google search. The ROF is way over what it actually was (roughly 400rpm irl) and the recoil is still pretty mild for being a short recoil action firing what is still a rifle cartridge, a milder one compared to other nation but still it wouldnt be a good time. There are even video footage of people these things and by no means does the recoil seem assault rifle level. It was always intended to be an LMG in the same vein as the BAR and if anything it should have been that but just with a better handling (since its still pretty light for what it is). Plus its also missing its bayonet.
The Fedorov Avtomat was historically used as an assault rifle during the winter war and WWII so it wouldn’t make sense to move it to a machine gunner class, nor a main line rifle either as that just kills historical accuracy completely. Lower damage or lower ROF (or both) to bring it more in line with other assault rifles and back to historical spec would be a better decision.
Fair point. It’s just retaining what historical accuracy is left is important, plus, if we move the FA to main line rifles, without nerfing it, the spam will be even worse, and the issue really hasn’t been resolved.
The machine gunner only argument is interesting, but the FA, while having some aspects designed to function as a BAR type LMG, really wasn’t made for it as there was no quick change barrel or sufficient cooling, rendering it kind of useless in a suppression role (and the yes the game isn’t that detailed, but I think the best thing for it is just simply a 20% ROF and damage nerf).
They basically already have a BR II Fedorov now (minus the full auto and 20 extra rounds), and besides, a stripper clip reload on a 25 round magazine would take 5 clips. For reference, the Gewehr 41 has 2 stripper clips and it takes long enough to reload. The reloading of the FA would just be hell, and then it would truly take the crown as the worst auto rifle in the game, and then no one would use it
