Mortar vs Flamethrower squad

So I’m playing BR3. I’m deciding whether I should pick a mortar or flamethrower squad for the special weapon kills mission.

Do you guys prefer mortars or flamethrowers?

Mortar. Every time. Way more useful than Flamers. Sure, they’re situational. But they are way more effective in those situational moments.

True but I think flamers are more fun and can be really good for attacking capture points that are inside.

2 good answers there - so have both in your lineup and use which ever works best right now - mortars for cap points in the open, FT for enclosed spaces

Yep that’s solid advice. I use both as well.

Flamers. More flexible and are on the front. The flamethrowers have been nerfed but they are still decent at clearing rooms and corners. Engineers are also not mandatory unless you always want one for rallies or wanna build the pirate cannon for Germany or Soviets.
Mortars are not flexible at lower BR if you wanna use them right because you require two specialist slots for Engineer, leaving only one or Assaulter or Sniper (and no SFs). They also suck ass on maps with many buildings and roofed CPs/ moving routes. And if your team sucks, you cannot afford sitting in the back all the time. They also require more skill.

Really depends.

In a big open map with outdoor cap zones (think about quarry) flamethrowers will get shot from afar without even reaching the spot, whereas mortars will soften the point for your team to take.

It’s a total 180 if the map is more indoor (think of steel mill), where mortars will be absolutely worthless, but flamethrowers will mean doom.
