Since CBT ended, I´m seeing a bit less of them (mortar spammers), maybe OBT players didn´t figured that out en masse yet (since they still didn´t figured out that they should use their brain, snipers and engineers on D-day invasion, it is not surprising). However, it is still abusable issue that needs to be taken care of. One mortar spammer is usually all your team needs to win.
I fought in a real War. Against my will, commander gave me 60mm mortar and one poor sob volunteered to carry my shells and rest of the equipment for the tube.
We carried 50 to 60 shells in our backpacks, with extra powder rings and aiming device, never had any problems.
Every man in fight was always VERY eager to carry more shells for us 2 bastrds, cause it’s a powerful weapon, and Here we come to the real problem.
Enemy artillery shells would soon found us EVERY TIME when we fired, sometimes we had to run all over the place and I had to shoot the bloody tube covered with newspaper cause of the heat under my armpit. You just have to remember not to grind your teeth and to open your mouth when firing cause of the air pressure while firing, but my eardrums are still shot to pieces.
So the problem: the commander that gave us the mortar was killed while giving me orders where to shoot, in 1 month, and the poor bstd that wanted to be my assistant was killed couple of days after, and it was tough to find a new guy after that; I even had 1 sorry ass fktard commander who tried to order me NOT to shoot, cause he knew enemy arty WILL find us.
So I don’t see any problem with ammo there, but the position of mortar fire should be visible to every fkn enemy after some number of shells dropped on their arses. After around 20 shells, your position should be known to all of them, and then it’s on enemy will they try to eliminate you or not.
Just my 2 cents
No.
I guess your commander did not give enough attention to section 7:

Thing is, this isn´t IRL situation. This is game where even if you manage to see mortar on the map you won´t be able to do anything about it because he is hidden behind enemy spawn, safely sitting on one place, surrounded by ammo crates from engineer and inifinitely spamming capture point, racking hundreds of kills without any risk. Icon on the map won´t save it. In fact, with damage mortars can cause I´m fine with them to fire safely from spawn, but their squad´s ammunition needs to have some very serious limits.
I’d prefer mortar teams just be 1 active per side, like aircraft. They do serve a purpose, but as-is, there’s no tactical value in them. It’s just spam. Give us actual map grid coordinates, so our one mortar team can put fire where the spotter wants it, and chef’s kiss that’d be golden!
Greetings there Josephs_Piano. Sorry if you didn’t reply to my comment directly, but in case you were, I guess you got confused there, and thought I was a soldier in organized army.
Nope, I’m from turd country that declared its Independence after the Berlin wall fell, and that didn’t sit well with country that had us under their boot for about a hundred years, so they simply turned on their tanks and other toys and in 1 month militarily occupied 1/3rd of my country.
I was an 18 year old when the War started, and didn’t have any army training before. When we were attacked we fought against 4th army in Europe, had mostly hunter weapons and under embargo from EU; all of our armament came from what we took from conquering enemy barracks, garrisons, what we bought on black market and you can guess the rest.
We were mostly loosing and been massacred during the 1st year of the War, but during 5 years, with help from USA we got our chances, and we took them all.
So manuals and rules didn’t have much to say about how we were fighting, even that 60 mm mortar that I got was from WW2, while my wingman on mortar was just 17 when he got killed…
All the best
Eloros Yep, I know it isn’t IRL situation friend. Just saying what I think should be, not that I KNOW it. If I were a dev, I’d make it like that, but maybe I even change my mind, I’m several K points from level 14, where I get the mortar team, so I can totally see that I’m wrong there.
All the best
BionicMullet Yep, but how many times you got into the game and no one ever even clicked the “V” button for tagging the enemy lol
And you’d want coordinates
Don’t get me wrong, I hope there will be some tactics and team play in this game one day, especially like you said there, but for now this is all just one big sand box
As airplanes thing go, you know why I like to play the air support sometimes? It’s the best way to learn the map, choke points, spawn points and sometimes you have really great air on air combats, or strikes on enemy tanks if you really learn how to handle the flying bricks lol
All the best
You have a point! Communication is almost non-existent in this game, and when you do get good communication on a team, you can overcome amazing odds! I concur with your point about learning maps via playing air support, as well! I spent most of my time in-game in a P-51, for better or for worse!
They have considerable tactical value - they can interdict reinforcements getting to a cap zone, or clear a cap zone allowing 1 friend troop on it to cap.
Those are the main things I try and achieve with them when I get a mortar task.
But you go on thinking htey are useless please - that’s 1 less competant mortar player I have to worry about facing!
I don’t use mortars. Just not my thing. Depending on which side you play, I’ll either be in a P-51 providing air cover for you, or dropping bombs on your teammates’ heads.
But, you go on insulting people, I guess. Not bothered.
You don’t play mortars, so where’s the insult in saying that you are not a competent mortar player?
