Could the game be modified in regards to the MG team for Germany. For example here is the main gunner, on the side is the ammo box carrier and on the other side you have the spotter.
How it would work is, you get 200+ rounds of ammo and a team member with binoculars which will constantly point out where there are enemies to aim for. So you get help basically. Should the ammo carrier get shot, you might loose some ammo. Should the spotter get shot, you will just have to be more aware and pro-active. Would give a very dynamic experience.
Forgot to mention the main gunner can construct an MG stabilization pod to improve handleing and have much much less recoil so you get a smooth and stable firing from your position
I’d love LMGs to be team based (I too made a suggestion about it in the past) but sadly it won’t work in enlisted. The game is too much run&gun for such mechanic to be useful.
A “Realistic” German MG setup is a Rifle Squad (missing one man though), in game that would be a MG gunner, guy with MP 40 (medic or Assaulter), and seven riflemen.
In my opinion, what’s most lacking is an ammunition carrier in MG squads.
A rifleman who could resupply the MG gunner like an engineer can for a fixed gun.
It’s a great option for Americans and Brits!
Although in the case of America, this is the Browning m1919a4
The funny thing is, the modders were able to at least untie these machine guns from the bag, which has already made them more mobile.
You literally don’t depend on a sandbag that sometimes doesn’t fit on the surface.
Note that Soviets and Axis do not have mobile AA squads like Japan and Allies (well they do, but only rare event squads). This would fit nicely in TT for Br1!
I did have an idea for a MMG squad where the soldier carrying the MMG could only hipfire it unless you commanded another soldier to put down a tripod on the ground for the gunner to mount the gun. The issue I eventually ran into with the idea is that the mount placing system is potentially too jank and eventual realisation that I’m not even sure if hip-firing MMGs while moving them between positions was a thing really done outside the US.
For potential weapons the US only has the M1919 and maybe M1917 as potential options to my knowledge (the Vickers is a big fat water cooled gun and not something that was really hipfired afaik, am honestly surprised they did it with the M1917), the Germans used the MG-34/42 which already work as LMGs, the Soviets have maybe the SG-43 but I’m not sure if hip-firing that thing was ever actually done, and I’m not aware of Japan having any kind of belt fed tripod-mounted MMG type gun.
Quad Maxim on Gaz would be fine in br1. Let’s keep in mind it is on a civilan truck, and the gunner is completely unprotected. By comparison, allies M13 may have only 2 HMG on it, but the gunner is encased in reliable armour!
