More cinematic game (with use of the AI)

We have AI so why not use it to create more atmosphere?

Like for example the last point in invasion would be a field hospital filled with AIs. Or field HQ with radios, officers, documents etc. They would spawn after the 2nd point is captured (or maybe even 3rd, I don’t remember how grey zones were located exactly).
When the enemy caps 3rd point, they start to evacuate. When the enemy caps 4th point, all “AI props” leave the point and the battle may begin.
They could evac earlier but then most players wouldn’t see them. Because they evac in the last moment, players will spawn near them (as on many maps spawnpoint is on the next point) and will see them.

It would also give more meaning so some objectives (looking at you random house at the end of D-day).

Another idea would be to spawn in a truck (or a tank or a Higgins boat) controled by AI. Truck would spawn with you (and maybe also other player) inside in the grey zone, transport you to your spawn, force you to get off the truck and you are spawned in much more interesting way. Truck would then turn around and leave the battlefield.

There should be also a cutscene basically of soldiers marching into the battlefield as most armies weren’t fully motorised. Whether you get on the battlefield via a truck or by foot can be dependent on the squad you spawn.

Additionally when you spawn in a truck, one of soldiers may say that you are finally awake.

The game is about shooting at AI so why not make them part of the map?
For example every bunker on D-Day would have it’s own, dedicated AI controled 4-5 man squad that would guard the place. Those squads would spawn only after objective is taken and the battlefield moves (so they won’t reinforce). Additionally those AIs could man MGs and whatnot in guarded places.

Of course they aren’t meant to be terminators but rather do what all other AIs already do: make the battle feel bigger than it really is.

Also those squads could be in places that are in the greyzone. For example those two bunkers (bottom of the map) could be occupied by AI germans at the start of a match.

Now they feel very artificial as they are a free gift from axis to allies.

Crew-served weapons
I’m repeating myself at this point but Enlisted is a PERFECT game for such mechanic. It may make the game so much more cinematic and interesting.
I just want to do this: https://youtu.be/EqWu2P466Sw?list=PLp8cdJgjoh5Les0Tk6yS6lUvAVPucUXj_&t=62

[Edit]
Maybe also after loosing a sector, add AI squads that fall back. Maybe even “medics” that carry wounded soldiers to backlines.

To be clear, I have no idea if any of this is possible of how heavy it will impact the game performance. But I’d like to make Enlisted more cinematic game as it has possibilities to be one.
AIs are just another prop that can be used to create atmosphere.

This is just my speculation, but I believe that we don’t have any of those for a few reasons.

The first one being, they would make the game a bit more heavier.
Like, in terms of processing. As this game it’s constantly fighting for the low resolution and allow players to play to all cross platform ( old, and new gen consoles alike ) they are already somewhat struggling to play this game.

The more you add, the less people will be able to play.

The second reason in my smol eyes, is that people and df do not like adding fighting ais already on the map. As those gives basically free deaths and kills in few occasions. Plus, people would slow down just to deal with those. And others might even lose time or lose theirselves among those ais. Which it’s possible.

In conclusion, I do like and love this idea, but perhaps mainly for pve stuff if those will be a thing.
As I don’t know if those will be a thing or not. I feel not. But I would like them though…

( hey, I always love surprises and be wrong about it )

Sounds interesting

an interesting idea that if it is completely polished, it is spectacular

I understand and share your thoughts about the game being resource hungry.

But I don’t agree about fighting AIs. The whole concept of the game is to fight with/against AI. Adding 20 more AI soldiers (per sector) spread out on the map can’t be that bad. Remember that they won’t reinforce once they die.

Wellllll…

As I play custom matches on a daily to have fun ( not very xps friendly towards my campaign levels though )…

Stationary ais are incredibly good.

They barely miss. And most of the time, one shot you, and kill you across the map when they get shoot at and respond for retaliation.

Let alone giving them a machine gun.

I’m not kidding, but they are effective especially when stationed… so… yeah…

I don’t know about that.
They do be really that bad but not how you would expect.

Like, instead of being a side support, they can be betters than players sometimes…

(Interesting. I wonder if my AI wil also perform better when stationary…)

I guess they can be artificially nerfed in that case. So they are more pain in the butt rather than a real threat.

[Edit]
Or even better. Make them scale with time.
So at the beggining, you may basically ignore them as they are quite bad (but not too bad). With the time passed, they become more and more dangerous. Maybe even to terminator lvl you described.

Imo it’s a good compromise (as I don’t want them to be useless either).

Very interesting but probably has some technical problems in practice. It would be great if they just increase intellect to be adaptive to few situations in battle and save their lives well.

A few AI won’t weigh down the game

That would be a really cool way of making the battles bigger and more unique. Some other games have it to where you can see NPCs fighting each other in unreachable parts of the map, it is an interesting idea.
