Morale - pointless discussion for record

  • I want morale
  • I don’t want morale

Plz, do not confuse morale and suppression.

Context?

I want to make sure that devs won’t do sth stupid because nobody wrote about it.

I mean what you’re asking for to begin with.

I would do it a bit like in total war series.
Soldier has got some morale level, the more experienced the higher the base morale. Almost everything arround would affect morale: being under fire, being supprest, being shelled by art / mortar, friendly / enemy tank nearby, large nuber of friendly / enemy nearby, friendly / enemy CAS, etc.
If morale level is low enough AI will loose effectiveness, so slower agro, more focus on cover and maybe other things (I’m not a programer so I have no idea what is possible to implement).
If you want to go full in then at 0 morale they will runaway. This is extreme but if you want then why not.

I didn’t wrote it at the beginning because I thought nobody will take this idea seriously.

Morale in an FPS is an absolutely horrible idea

I know. This is why I called it “pointless discusion”, nobody would want to play this.

That’s like War Thunder’s stamina system but worse all-around.

I’m just throwing my support for you in, brother

That’s what happens when you assume you know what people think, but you don’t. Being intentionally vague didn’t help either.

Morale can mean a lot of things and not all of them are out of place in a shooter. Suppression mechanics are one such example. Forced retreat on the other hand is probably a bad idea, especially with how static and worthless bots currently are.

Suppression is completely different story. You don’t have to be scared to try to avoid being shot. And I in 100% support implementation of this mechanic.

Maybe. But so far it seems that my assumptions were right and I don’t think votes will drastically change.

This is a horrible mechanic that was tried in Red Orchestra 2, to the point that veteran soldiers (You reach level 80 with a class) would suppress nearby enemy soldiers by simply being near them.
It’s already bad with your vision getting blurry in this game when artillery drops close to you.

but i need supression like squad or post scriptum

I can understand twitching/ruining aim from incoming fire, it is a human reaction after all. But an explosion/machinegun outside of your bunker will not make you colourblind for a few seconds and would be a needless and unrealistic addition.

humans fear death and that fear is suppression I guess but how small the maps are we will be suppressed the whole game length so suprresion you may be left out but head bobbing was added so …?

Put it simply those kinds of mechanics aren’t fun at all. I already think the head waving after an explosion is a bit much.

Somewhere else the dev’s have been noted as this game to be a milsim.

So suppression and neutralization should absolutely be in. They are not morale per so as in people running away - but they are replications of sensible actions people take to avoid dying when under actual incoming fire.

Especially for the bot’s - making them that bit more realistic is always going to be a good thing ™ at the moment IMO!
